Job Description

Canopy USA is a U.S. based holding company with a portfolio of cannabis brands, products, operations, and business segments. Strategically positioned across the U.S. cannabis market, Canopy USA holds interests across its three business units: (1) Wana Brands ("Wana"), a leader in North American edibles, (2) Acreage Holdings, Inc. ("Acreage"), a vertically integrated multi-state cannabis operator with principal operations in densely populated states across the Midwest and Northeast, and (3) Lemurian, Inc. ("Jetty"), a California-based producer of high-quality cannabis extracts and pioneer of clean vape technology. Through coverage of key market segments including flower via Superflux, vape and concentrates via Jetty, edibles and beverages via Wana, and retail through The Botanist, Canopy USA is well-positioned to accelerate growth with an emphasis on the Midwestern and Northeastern U.S. markets. Summary The HR Manager is primarily responsible for leading core employee lifecycle functions and completing a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of Canopy USA. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, HRIS maintenance & Employee Relations. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Performs all human resources functions with the utmost confidentiality and in compliance with Canopy USA policies and procedures
  • Addresses employee issues, concerns and/or questions in a professional and timely manner
  • Responsible for full-cycle recruiting for all non-exempt positions including; managing the requisition process; creating and/or updating job descriptions and postings; identifying recruiting sources; advertising on job boards and utilizing social media; screening candidates; conducting reference checks, overseeing mandatory background check process; and presenting/negotiating offers
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition team for job posting sponsorships and recruitment support on all exempt positions and candidate pipeline on hard to fill roles.
  • Coordinates candidate interviews with hiring managers; assists hiring managers with assessing talent; and trains managers to complete candidate evaluation forms
  • Manages employee Life Cycle and maintains all employee files, including processing transfers, promotions, and terminations and maintaining management approvals
  • Manages Union Benefits and Union Dues, ensuring accurate and timely submission of Benefit and Dues deduction payments to the respective union organizations. This includes ensuring new hire deductions and benefits are accounted for, as well as monthly reconciliation of payments and deductions for all union members if applicable.
  • Supports employees by fielding and answering general payroll, PTO, HRIS system and benefit inquiries and partners with the National Director of HR and Centers of Excellence leaders as needed.
  • Conducts fair, objective investigations, maintains appropriate documentation, and partners with the Employee Relations Manager on outcomes
  • Submits online background investigation requests and assists with new-employee background checks.
  • Conducts onboarding, including completing and verifying I-9 documentation, preparing and maintaining employee files, and facilitating orientation training
  • Ensure new hire receives 30/60/90 day training plan from management
  • Communicate and collaborate with HR peers, leaders, key stakeholders and Centers of Excellence
  • Collaborates with benefits team on employee leaves and accommodations to ensure compliance with state and federal law, as well as alignment with internal processes
  • Provides guidance to the management team on HR best practices related to talent acquisition, performance management, employee and labor relations
  • Assists with the preparation and execution of the performance review process.
  • Routinely audit timecards to ensure compliance and adherence to meal/break and attendance policies
  • Suggests engagement initiatives and activities, and assists with their execution
  • Looks for ways to improve processes and makes suggestions to the National Director of HR
  • Represents the company at job fairs and/or recruiting events
Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Associates degree required, specialty in Human Resources Management, organizational development or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of human resources experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of labor relations experience
  • Strong in-house recruiting background preferred Computers and Technology
