Job Description

Job Title:
Director of Human Resources Reports to:
CEO or CFO Purpose:
Lead the development, implementation, and coordination of all personnel-related policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with all federal, state/provincial, and local employment laws. Partner with the executive team to drive business goals through an engaged, high-performing workforce. Champion talent acquisition, retention, and development while cultivating a positive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain employee policies and procedures; advise managers and employees on policy interpretation and compliance with employment laws and company standards. Serve as a strategic partner on the leadership team, contributing to organizational planning and execution of business goals. Design and manage employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs, wellness activities, and feedback mechanisms. Oversee the administration of compensation and benefits programs, including performance-based pay structures and workers' compensation. Lead recruitment efforts across the organization: build external partnerships (e.g., local schools and workforce programs), coach hiring managers, and optimize the selection and onboarding processes. Manage and continuously improve the performance management process to ensure alignment with company objectives and employee development. Oversee training, learning, and development programs to build internal capabilities and support career progression. Lead and develop the HR team, ensuring a high level of service delivery in recruiting, staffing, and employee development. Manage the organization's safety and health initiatives, ensuring legal compliance, employee safety training, and injury prevention programs. Travel regularly to company locations to support leadership, engage with employees, and ensure HR alignment across all branches (estimated 35% of time out of office, with occasional overnight travel required).
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience in key areas such as compensation and benefits, recruitment, employee relations, training, and compliance. Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Strong working knowledge of federal and state/provincial labor laws, wage and hour regulations, and HR best practices. Proficient with Microsoft Office and HR information systems; experience with
HRIS/ATS
platforms preferred. Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver strategic HR initiatives. Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of presenting and influencing at all levels of the organization. PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
