The Press's offices are located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill North Carolina. Longleaf Services, Inc. is a full service fulfillment company and subsidiary of UNC Press UNC Press and Longleaf Services are seeking a highly capable Senior Human Resources Manager to lead and manage all aspects of the HR function. As the sole HR professional supporting both organizations, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape HR strategy, drive employee engagement, and directly influence organizational success. This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for an experienced HR manager who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. What You'll Do Lead and manage all HR programs, policies, and initiatives across both organizations Review, update, and implement HR policies to ensure compliance and effectiveness Oversee monthly payroll processing and administration of employee benefits programs Manage full-cycle recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes Design and improve performance management systems to support employee development Serve as a trusted advisor on employee relations and workplace concerns Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, etc.) Partner with leadership to support organizational planning and workforce strategy Develop and deliver training programs to enhance employee and manager effectiveness Manage relationships with external vendors (benefits providers, advisors, consultants) Liaise with UNC System and UNC Chapel Hill HR offices What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, Psychology, or related field (or equivalent experience) 6-8+ years of progressive HR experience in a generalist or manager role Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance Experience managing multiple HR functions (recruiting, payroll, employee relations, benefits) Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities Preferred Qualifications Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization Familiarity with UNC or North Carolina public sector environments PHR or SHRM-CP certification Compensation & Benefits •
Salary:
$75,000 - $95,000 annually (exempt) • Benefits include paid vacation, paid holidays, sick leave, and health insurance. We are part of the North Carolina State Retirement system. Work Environment This is a full-time, fully onsite position based in Chapel Hill, NC. There is some flexibility for occasional hybrid work-from-home. Reporting Reports to the UNC Press Director, with "dotted line" to the Executive Team of CFO and CEO of Longleaf Services.
