The HR Manager works closely with employees and managers across our bakery and cafe operations and serves as a trusted resource to Red Hen's leadership team. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys both the people and systems sides of HR and is comfortable moving between detailed administration, employee support, and bigger-picture work to strengthen our teams and workplace. Schedule & Compensation This is a salaried, 30-hour-per-week position, typically working four days per week from 8:00am-3:30pm, with flexibility on preferred start and end times. The salary range is $45,000-$55,000 annually, based on a 30-hour workweek, with room for continued compensation growth as the employee develops in the role. Employee Experience & Manager Support Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and managers, helping navigate workplace questions, concerns, policies, and employment-related needs. Support and coach managers through performance concerns, attendance, conflict, corrective action, difficult conversations, and other employee relations issues. Develop tools and training that help managers give effective feedback, manage performance, communicate clearly, and build strong teams. Manage employee leaves, accommodations, medical restrictions, return-to-work processes, offboarding, and other individual employee needs. Partner with Red Hen's leadership on staffing, job design, organizational changes, and other people-related decisions. Lead Red Hen's performance review process, including evaluation design, self and peer evaluations and manager support. Own the annual employee engagement survey, from question design and communication through analysis of results and company-wide themes. Lead annual compensation reviews, including market research, pay range development and updates, and recommendations for changes. Partner with managers to develop and maintain clear performance expectations and wage progression rubrics for their teams. Payroll, Benefits & HR Systems Own twice-monthly payroll for Red Hen's bakery and cafe operations and manage the HRIS and scheduling system that support employee information, pay, deductions, direct deposit, and timekeeping. Manage health, dental, and vision benefits, including enrollment, account maintenance, payroll deductions, and employee support. Manage Red Hen's employee retirement program in partnership with our external benefits specialist, including regular account updates and annual reporting. Administer short- and long-term disability programs and coordinate employee claims and related processes. Manage employee wellness programs and available wellness funding and resources. Compliance, Policies & HR Administration Own workers' compensation claims, including employee communication, coordination with managers, providers and the insurance carrier, work restrictions, return-to-work processes, and annual audits. Maintain accurate employee records and required HR documentation throughout the employee lifecycle. Maintain and update Red Hen's Employee Handbook and develop policies as needed to reflect company practices, values, and changing employment requirements. Coordinate HR-related reporting, audits, and compliance requirements and maintain working knowledge of relevant federal and Vermont employment requirements.
