Location:
176 N. Birch St. Soldotna, AK On-Site (No Remote or Hybrid)
Schedule:
Full-Time, Monday-Friday (32-40 hours/week, year-round)
Compensation:
$58,000 - $70,000 per year, DOE Benefits Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSEHRA) 401(k) retirement plan Paid holidays Personal leave About Independent Living Center Independent Living Center is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to empowering individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in their communities. With a passionate team of 23 employees, we provide advocacy, peer support, and essential transition services. We are looking for a people-centric HR Generalist to join our onsite team and support the heart of our mission: our staff. Position Summary The Independent Living Center is seeking a versatile, proactive, and "hands-on" HR Generalist to lead our Human Resources function from top to bottom. As our sole HR professional, you will serve as the organization's primary strategic partner—balancing administrative precision with a people-centered approach. You will own the full employee lifecycle, serving as the go-to contact for all staff and leadership. This role is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys juggling daily operations (recruiting, benefits, compliance) while partnering with management to develop long-term people strategies and maintain a positive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities Talent Acquisition & Onboarding:
Manage full-cycle recruiting, including job postings, resume screening, interviewing, and coordinating a welcoming onboarding experience for all new hires. Prepare and facilitate in-house employee trainings.
Employee Relations:
Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries; facilitate conflict resolution, conduct investigations, and provide coaching to managers with professionalism and discretion.
Benefits & Payroll:
Administer employee benefit programs (HRA, 401k), manage open enrollment, and support payroll with maintaining and reviewing payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, changes to pay rates, and approving timesheets.
Compliance & Policy:
Ensure strict adherence to federal and Alaska state labor laws. Maintain up-to-date employee handbooks, HR documentation, and confidential electronic/physical files. Manage workers' compensation program, including initial reporting, modified duty, plan/administrator, and employees. Responsible for annual OSHA reporting. Develops and maintains affirmative action program; files EEO1 annually; maintains other records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations
Performance Management:
Facilitate the performance review process, guiding managers in goal-setting, employee development initiatives, and disciplinary actions.
HRIS Management:
Maintain employee records within the HRIS, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
Other Duties:
Perform administrative and operational tasks outside regular HR functions as assigned, particularly during periods of lighter HR workload
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Experience:
2+ years of progressive HR experience. Experience in a standalone/solo capacity or within a nonprofit/small-to-midsize business environment is highly preferred.
Certification:
SHRM-CP or PHR certification is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), and modern
HRIS/ATS
platforms.
