  • Full-time Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of Employee Relations, this position will address issues related to employee relations: Voluntary & involuntary separations.
Employee performance and misconduct management. Complaints, grievances, claims, cases and assist in meeting applicable standards regulations and best practices. Conduct and manage workplace investigations (prepare comprehensive reports of investigations, findings, recommendations for appropriate action). Track and analyze trends to improve workplace culture and performance to develop a climate of inclusion and sense of belonging. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the assigned classification, with or without reasonable accommodation(s), using some other combination of skills and abilities. Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are as follows: Demonstrated knowledge of performance management solutions, employee conduct management, and best practices in supervision and other work life issues related to employee relations. Ability to apply policy knowledge to training, and relay processes and guidelines to various stakeholders. Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect and apply data, establish and analyze facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend management interventions and work plans to solve complex problems and issues. Ability to build consensus, navigate political situations, build coalitions, meditate and apply non-adversarial problem-solving approaches to resolve problems. Ability to multi-task and drive multiple projects. Ability to work independently while dealing with ambiguity, coping with change and shifting gears comfortably without having the total picture. Ability to stay current with laws, rules, and regulations related to employee and labor relations. Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information. Demonstrated problem solving, time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Human Resources, or Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent work experience can be substituted for this degree requirement.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in Employee Relations. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse educational, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, racial, and ethnic identities of students and employees in an academic setting.
Preferred Qualifications Education:
Master's degree or higher in relevant field of study.
Experience:
3-5 years experience conducting workplace investigations from intake to resolution. Experience conducting trauma-informed intake and case screening meetings. Conflict resolution training or experience (for example, alternative dispute resolution/or mediation certification). 1-3 years of Title IX/VAWA/Clery Act experience in the education context.
Essential Job Duties Key Responsibilities Complaint Resolution/Case Management:
Produces and manages reporting metrics and analytics for cases and presents reports as requested. Partners closely with all human resources staff and supervisors. Meets regularly with human resources staff to review cases and develop strategies for resolution. Responsible for executing action items in furtherance of Employee Relations efforts and the mission of HR in a trauma-informed manner, including with respect to monitoring, investigating, managing grievance processes, including formal and informal resolution, managing records and case management databases, developing and coordinating education and prevention training and programming activities. Assists the Senior Manager of Employee Relations in responding to and managing all reports from students, employees and third-parties of policy violations. Provides support with managing vendor communication for management of compliance training and case management software.
Key Responsibilities Consultations & Training:
Participates in vendor selection and management for compliance training and case management software. Advises supervisors on employee performance management and counseling/corrective actions. Conducts and coordinate training programs related to employee relations and organizational development.
Key Responsibilities Employee Relations Case Management:
Serves as a subject matter expert for employee relations issues in alignment and under the general direction and guidance of HR leadership and the legal department. Assigns cases to, tracks progression, and reviews work of Employee Relations Specialist. Assist in ensuring compliance through policy and handbook development, enforcement, and maintenance (including relevant raining and development initiatives). Coaches and engages campus stakeholders through preventative and reactive consultation to support accountability and leadership, through discipline and corrective action management. Assists with data-informed workforce and organizational strategy management for employee engagement and fostering a climate of inclusion.
Key Responsibilities Internal and External Communication:
Addresses inquiries from government agencies (e.g.
EEOC, EDD, FEHA
) terminations, and other employee services in compliance with regulatory requirements. Provides prompt responses to internal and external employee relations/human resources inquiries. through various channels. Keeps records of customer interactions, transactions, comments and complaints. Develops communication templates and materials projects (letters, memos, announcements resource guides, flyers, handouts). Key Responsibilities Other duties as assigned.
