Summary The Human Resources Generalist provides hands-on HR support across employee relations, leave administration, workers' compensation, unemployment, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, payroll review, compliance tracking, and HRIS administration. This position serves as the primary operational HR contact for employees and managers on routine to moderately complex HR matters, while collaborating with the Director of Human Resources on high-risk employee relations, legal, leave, accommodation, compensation, and policy matters. The HR Generalist works closely with the HR Specialist to ensure accurate HR records, timely onboarding/offboarding, audit readiness, and employee life-cycle support. The role also supports the Director by helping implement HR policies, compliance processes, performance systems, employee engagement initiatives, and workforce reporting. Responsibilities Employee Relations & Manager Support Serve as the first-line HR contact for routine employee relations questions, workplace concerns, attendance issues, conduct concerns, and policy interpretation. Coach supervisors on routine performance documentation, corrective action preparation, attendance management, and employee communication. Assist managers with drafting performance counseling documents, written warnings, performance improvement plans, and termination documentation. Conduct or support routine employee relations fact-finding, documentation review, and follow-up. Escalate high-risk matters involving protected leave, disability accommodation, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, workplace violence, serious misconduct, or potential legal exposure. Maintain employee relations case notes, supporting documentation, and tracking logs in accordance with HR documentation standards. Leave of Absence, ADA & Accommodation Support Administer routine leave-of-absence processes, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, sick leave, vacation, SDI/PFL coordination, and other applicable leave programs. Provide employees with required leave notices, forms, deadlines, and status updates. Track leave dates, certification deadlines, return-to-work documentation, restrictions, extensions, and exhaustion dates. Support the interactive process by collecting documentation, coordinating communication, and preparing materials. Escalate complex accommodation requests, denials, undue hardship considerations, leave exhaustion, or separation-related matters to the Director. Workers' Compensation, Safety & Unemployment Coordinate workers' compensation claim intake, first reports of injury, employee communication, claim documentation, and follow-up with the carrier or broker. Track work restrictions, modified duty status, return-to-work releases, and related communications. Support workplace injury investigations and assist with OSHA documentation and safety-related follow-up. Prepare unemployment claim responses, gather documentation, coordinate hearing preparation, and represent or assist with routine unemployment matters as assigned. Escalate complex workers' compensation, retaliation, accommodation, or termination-related claims to the Director. Recruitment, Onboarding & Employee Life Cycle Support full-cycle recruitment for assigned positions, including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, hiring manager communication, reference checks, and offer preparation. Partner with managers to ensure hiring processes are consistent, compliant, and aligned with organizational standards. Partner with the HR Specialist to ensure employee files, HRIS profiles, onboarding checklists, and orientation materials are complete and accurate. Coordinate offboarding processes, including exit documentation, final pay information, benefit notices, equipment return, access removal, and exit interview tracking. Performance Management & Training Support Support the annual performance evaluation process, including tracking completion, communicating deadlines, assisting managers, and maintaining HRIS documentation. Assist managers with probationary reviews, 90-day reviews, corrective action follow-up, and performance documentation. Support the Director with manager training materials, HR communications, and rollout of new HR processes or policies. Compliance, Policy & Audit Support Assist with personnel file audits, I-9 audits, payroll audits, training audits, benefits documentation, and other HR compliance reviews. Support preparation of documentation for

300/300A, ACA, 5500, and other required filings as applicable. Assist with policy updates, employee communications, handbook acknowledgments, and procedure rollouts. Monitor compliance deadlines and maintain tracking tools for required HR activities. Ensure HR records are maintained confidentially and in accordance with applicable retention standards. Benefits & Employee Support Provide employees with general benefits information and route complex benefits questions to the appropriate vendor/broker. Assist with open enrollment preparation, employee communication, enrollment tracking, and follow-up. Support benefits changes related to new hires, qualifying life events, separations, COBRA notices, and leave-related benefit continuation. Help coordinate employee engagement, recognition, survey, and retention-support activities. HRIS Support Maintain accurate HRIS data related to job changes, compensation changes, supervisor changes, status changes, leave status, corrective actions, and separations. Generate routine HRIS reports and assist with audits related to employee data, payroll records, compliance documentation, and personnel files. Support HRIS process improvements, workflow testing, data cleanup, and system documentation. Other Duties Perform additional HR-related duties as assigned to support departmental needs, compliance requirements, employee experience, and organizational operations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field required. 2-4 years of progressively responsible HR experience preferred. Experience with employee relations, leave administration, workers' compensation, recruitment, onboarding, HRIS administration, payroll review, or compliance tracking. Working knowledge of federal and California employment laws, including wage and hour, leave of absence, disability accommodation, harassment prevention, and employee documentation practices. Experience with HRIS systems required; experience with Workforce Go, UKG, or similar systems preferred. Strong written communication skills, documentation skills, discretion, and attention to detail. Ability to manage confidential information and sensitive employee matters professionally. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and reporting experience preferred. SHRM-CP, PHR, or the ability to obtain within one year is preferred.
