Essential Elements:

CUSTODIAN III BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, lead and participate in the performance of skilled custodial and routine maintenance functions and activities; perform general custodial functions in maintaining building in a clean, safe and secure condition.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Assist in the planning, organization, work scheduling and leading of custodial personnel in cleaning and maintaining buildings and adjacent ground areasE; review, inspect and participate in the work of a custodial work force to ensure adherence to standards of cleanliness, sanitation and safetyE; provide technical input into the performance evaluation of custodial personnelE; perform general custodial functions, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, dusting, cleaning restrooms, polishing, vacuuming, washing walls and other general cleaning tasksE; maintain operational records, such as custodial personnel time reportsE; prepare clear and concise operational summaries as requiredE; request supplies, materials and equipment as necessaryE; complete minor repair, part replacement and adjustment tasksE; inspect heating, ventilation and water systems to assure adherence to operation procedures and guidelinesE; report needed repair and maintenance of work equipmentE; perform skilled operational functions in the preparation of athletic events or other events at the siteE; perform duties with stage lighting, curtain movement operations and set up arrangements for stage productions or meetingsE; assist in the planning, organization and delivery of custodial personnel orientation and inservice training programs as required; raise and lower flagE; lock and unlock gates and doorsE; coordinate and participate in the major cleaning of the school facility during recess periodsE; shampoo, steam clean and repair worn or torn carpeting as requiredE; perform routine maintenance and preventive maintenance functions, including equipment adjustments, lubrication and basic part replacementE; replace light bulbs and light tubes; assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism; operate a blower to clean sidewalks and school grounds as assignedE; perform emergency clean-up service resulting from breakages, vandalism, spilling and illness; perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Methods, procedures, materials and equipment utilized in cleaning and maintaining a variety of surfaces and equipment; Personnel motivation techniques and strategies; Safe working methods; Policies, regulations and operational guidelines pertaining to the cleaning and maintenance of school buildings and facilities.
Ability to:
Effectively maintain work schedules and accomplish assigned tasks; Perform light to moderately heavy manual activities; Train and orient custodial personnel as assigned; Follow oral and written directions; Work cooperatively with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School and three years of experience in skilled custodial work, including experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California driver's license (for assignments that require driving a district vehicle and/or multiple location assignments); Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment:
Indoor/outdoor/adverse weather environments; Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors; Evening or variable hours; Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
Physical Abilities:
Lifting or moving heavy objects; Pushing or pulling; Kneeling or crouching; Bending at the waist; Standing for extended periods of time; Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment; Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
