Student Services Medical Assistant (Part-Time) Allan Hancock College $23.13 - $29.51 Hourly part-time position United States, California, Santa Maria May 20, 2026 Position Summary
DEFINITION
Under supervision of the appropriate administrator, the incumbent will work as part of the Health and Wellness Services medical office team performing clinical, technical, and clerical duties to meet the goal of providing primary health care for students. The incumbent will perform duties within their scope of practice and abide by any and all laws and regulations imposed on their license/certification.; and value and promote the mission and vision of the college.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
The incumbent, under limited supervision, will assist in front office duties, which include answering the phones, making appointments, filing and medical records maintenance. This assignment of duties will require a broader knowledge of the organizational unit, which includes a substantial amount of administrative detail and non-routine work. Essential Functions and Qualifications May assist with front office duties that include answering phones, making appointments, and assisting students. Assists with direct health care procedures and tasks, checks students in, obtains history, vital signs, chief complaint (CC), and prepares students for Registered Nurse (RN)/Medical Doctor (MD)/Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Physician Assistant (PA) evaluation. Explains treatment procedures to students and prepares students for test/treatment/examination. Performs routine lab test under
RN/MD/NP/PA
supervision. Prepares exam rooms for visits, cleans rooms and instruments/equipment. Maintains medical equipment in working order, including running controls when needed. Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials including medications, restocks treatment rooms. Prepares and maintains health education and office files. Maintains confidentiality and privacy of students at all times. Assists with education and health promotion under the direction of the RN. Maintains reminders for next appointments. Maintains patient's medical records in Electronic Health Record and ensures paperwork is completed properly. Maintains Electronic Health Record software and trains on updates. Assists
RN/MD/NP/PA.
Provides patient support and education via telehealth platform as an extension of care. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Basic elements of good English usage, spelling, arithmetic, filing, and telephone etiquette; Medical terminology. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations;
Working Conditions:
Duties are primarily performed in an office/ health center environment, at a desk or at a computer; The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday; The incumbent has a high frequency of responsible contact with students, staff and the general public requiring tact and good communication skills.
Physical Demands:
May sit for extended periods of time; Operates a computer keyboard; Communicates over the telephone; Ability to lift, carry, and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
Special Qualification:
A sensitivity to an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities. Bilingual in Spanish preferred Demonstrated Ability to: Learn necessary college and office operations, procedures, and equipment usage; Operate a computer and other technology accurately and effectively; Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with those encountered in the workplace; Maintain clinic flow and provide assistance to medical provider.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience:
An equivalent to a high school diploma, certificate of completion from an accredited medical assistant program or currently enrolled in medical assisting program.
Licenses and Certifications:
Requirement to be certificated in CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). First Aid Training Additional Information The desired start date is August 2026. This is a part-time, 19-hour, classified, 10-month position.
Work Schedule:
Wednesday & Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. To be considered for this position, the candidate must submit the following application materials by Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 11:59
