(Norwalk City Hall) Job Summary This position, under the general guidance of the Human Resources Director and Legal Counsel, applies an understanding and knowledge of legal concepts and processes to assist in the more efficient operations of Human Resources. Duties And Responsibilities Monitor grievance filings, create files for all grievances and schedule hearings Attend grievances or hearings to support attorney and the Director of Human Resources Intake, review and monitor Freedom of Information Act requests and work collaboratively with Legal Counsel Review and redact responses to Freedom of Information Act requests with Legal Counsel Identify electronic data that is relevant to litigation and work with Legal Counsel to categorize, maintain, organize, store and distribute such data Review case files for Legal Counsel and organize all correspondence, pleadings, and evidence Draft and submit correspondence regarding internal investigations Schedule and organize all interviews and meetings for internal investigations Collect, review and draft legal documents and correspondence Attend, document and maintain files for Union consultation meetings and all meetings pertaining to Human Resources/Legal Manage and organize caseloads and/or multiple assignments Assist Legal Counsel in drafting and review of updates to legal documents, policies, regulations, and guidelines Copy, file, organize and maintain all Union contracts and agreements Organize and maintain files regarding Union and Employee matters Schedule and organize meetings for the Director of Human Resources and Legal Counsel Organize, maintain, and file documents regarding internal investigations Provide administrative support to management and the department Perform other duties as requested and assigned Required Qualifications Skills /Abilities and Knowledge Proficiency with Microsoft software, including Office Suite and Teams Excellent organization skills and attention to detail Takes initiative to learn technological platforms Strong understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters Legal research and investigative skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Self-motivated and self-initiated Excellent time management skills and proven ability to meet deadlines Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment Ability to work independently Excellent work ethic Education/Certification Paralegal certification or Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field or equivalent experience required Related Work Experience 5+ years paralegal or equivalent work experience
