This role supports the employee life cycle across recruiting coordination, onboarding, employee relations, HR administration, benefits support, compliance, training coordination, performance support, HR systems, records management, and employee-experience initiatives. Walker & Company is a Winter Park based commercial General Contractor and Construction Manager serving Central Florida since 1974. The company serves multifamily, senior living, education, commercial, special use, religious, civic, and institutional construction markets. The right candidate brings mature judgment, confidentiality, follow-through, employment compliance awareness, emotional intelligence, and the ability to support both office and field teams with professionalism, consistency, and care. Position Impact

more seasoned than a coordinator, broader than an administrator, and positioned to become the future manager.- Improve HR consistency, responsiveness, documentation, employee confidence, manager support, and cultural alignment across office, project, and field environments.
- Help translate Walker's values - People, Character, Persistence, Leadership, Pride, Shared Success, and Built to Last into daily behaviors, manager habits, onboarding experiences, recognition rhythms, and practical people systems.
- Bring structure to people-process issues, resolve what can be solved, and escalate sensitive matters with clarity, discretion, and courage. Core ResponsibilitiesCulture Stewardship and Employee Experience
- Reinforce Walker's values through daily interactions, onboarding, recognition, employee communication, manager follow-up, and values-based storytelling.
- Support employee recognition, milestone acknowledgments, team events, service anniversaries, internal communications, and culture-building initiatives.
- Listen well to employees and managers, identify themes, and elevate patterns requiring leadership attention while protecting appropriate confidentiality.
- Promote a professional, respectful, accountable, and team-oriented employee experience across office and field environments. Recruiting, Hiring, and Onboarding
- Support recruiting for office, project management, field leadership, administrative, and operational roles, including postings, candidate communication, interview scheduling, applicant tracking, offer support, background checks, references, and pre-employment requirements.
- Assist hiring managers with position descriptions, candidate screening, interview preparation, hiring documentation, and practical onboarding plans.
- Coordinate new-hire paperwork, employment eligibility documentation, policy acknowledgments, orientation schedules, introductory communications, technology access, timekeeping requirements, and benefits information.
- Partner with managers on first-week follow-up, 30/60/90-day check-ins, early retention support, and integration into Walker's standards, history, purpose, and team culture. HR Administration, Records, and Systems
- Maintain accurate employee records, personnel files, HRIS data, organizational charts, job information, emergency contacts, license records, certifications, and related documentation.
- Process employee changes, including new hires, separations, compensation changes, position changes, manager changes, status changes, and employment verifications.
- Coordinate accurately with payroll, accounting, benefits providers, insurance contacts, and outside administrators.
- Improve HR forms, checklists, templates, workflows, HR calendars, reports, rosters, headcount summaries, recruiting updates, and standard operating procedures. Benefits, Leave, Employee Relations, and Compliance
- Support benefits administration, eligibility tracking, enrollment assistance, open enrollment, carrier communication, employee questions, issue resolution, COBRA coordination, and benefits termination processes.
- Assist with leave administration, FMLA, medical leave, personal leave, workers compensation interfaces, return-to-work documentation, and related communications.
- Provide front-line HR support for employee questions, policy interpretation, workplace concerns, documentation needs, manager guidance, and performance-support follow-up.
- Escalate sensitive employee relations matters appropriately and support compliance with I-9, EEO, wage and hour, leave, records retention, workplace conduct, handbook updates, policy rollouts, acknowledgments, discipline documentation, separations, and exit interviews. Training, Safety Interface, and Workforce Development
- Coordinate onboarding, compliance, leadership, software, professional development, and certification training while maintaining accurate training records and renewal tracking.
- Support safety documentation, incident follow-up paperwork, workers compensation coordination, return-to-work communication, and required training records in partnership with safety leadership or outside safety resources.
- Assist managers in identifying development needs and tracking follow-up actions tied to performance reviews, individual development plans, and workforce readiness.
- Reinforce a culture of accountability, professionalism, safety, communication, continuous improvement, and values-based leadership. Leadership Support and Communication
- Prepare clear employee announcements, HR updates, meeting notes, templates, process documents, and employee-facing communications.
- Support executives and managers during organizational changes, policy updates, employee transitions, new initiatives, and cultural reinforcement efforts.
- Handle confidential information with discretion, maturity, professionalism, and enough backbone to tell the truth while preserving dignity.
- Serve as a trusted, service-oriented HR partner who improves follow-through without adding bureaucracy. Experience and Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in human resources, HR administration, recruiting coordination, employee relations, benefits support, culture support, or related people operations; senior individual-contributor experience preferred.
- Experience supporting both office and field personnel is preferred. Construction, subcontracting, engineering, architecture, real estate development, manufacturing, field services, or another project-based environment is strongly valued.
- Experience with onboarding, employee records, benefits coordination, HRIS data, compliance documentation, manager support, employee communication, engagement, recognition, training coordination, and sensitive workplace issues required.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Psychology, Communications, or a related field preferred. Equivalent HR, construction industry, administrative, and professional training experience will be considered.
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification preferred, or willingness to pursue certification as appropriate. Florida employment and construction workforce experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills
- Working knowledge of HR best practices, employment documentation, employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, recruiting coordination, employee experience, and HR compliance.
- Practical understanding of federal and Florida employment requirements, including I-9, EEO, wage and hour, leave coordination, personnel records, and workplace policy administration.
- Strong organization, written communication, judgment, emotional intelligence, confidentiality, discernment, responsiveness, and follow-through.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn HRIS, payroll, applicant tracking, benefits, and construction management systems. Position Logistics
- Full-time, exempt, onsite position based out of Walker & Company's Winter Park, Florida headquarters.
- Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility required for employee needs, onboarding, open enrollment, urgent HR matters, company events, and business priorities.
- Occasional travel may be required for jobsite visits, recruiting events, employee meetings, training sessions, or company events.
