(NW-GENA-IUNWA) Department Information The Office of Human Resources at IU Northwest is a collaborative, service-focused team that partners closely with campus leadership, faculty, and staff to support a thriving and inclusive workplace. As a regional campus, our HR team works directly with departments and plays a visible, hands-on role in daily operations. This position is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys building relationships, solving problems in real time, and serving as a trusted resource across a diverse academic community. Job Summary Indiana University Northwest is seeking a confident and collaborative HR professional to serve as a trusted partner to campus leadership, providing guidance across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance. This role offers broad exposure across multiple HR disciplines and the opportunity to develop as a trusted advisor within a dynamic campus environment Department Specific Responsibilities Serves as the primary HR partner for assigned campus departments, providing guidance to supervisors and staff on recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and policy interpretation. Leads full-cycle recruitment efforts, including consultation on position development, candidate evaluation, and onboarding strategy. Advises leadership on employee relations matters, including performance concerns, corrective action, conflict resolution, and leave administration (e.g., FMLA). Ensures compliance with university policies, federal and state employment laws, and HR best practices, and proactively identifies and addresses potential risks. Partners with campus stakeholders to support employee engagement, training initiatives, and performance evaluation processes. Maintains accurate and confidential HR records and documentation in alignment with university standards. Interprets and communicates benefits information to employees, serving as a knowledgeable resource during enrollment and life events. General Responsibilities Counsels academic and/or staff employees and management on various HR topics and functions; communicates and shares understanding of various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards, and other government regulations. Researches, responds to, and addresses various employee relations issues, such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employee complaints, and workers' compensation. Develops in-depth knowledge and skill in various HR functions, in addition to growing knowledge in HR policies, procedures, and legal requirements to provide quality HR guidance to academic and/or staff employees and managers. Develops a thorough understanding of the operational strategy and culture for the recruitment coordinator, school, or department. Contributes to and/or manages various academic and/or staff HR activities, projects, or initiatives, such as recruitment, onboarding, engagement, or performance management. Researches and stays up-to-date on relevant academic and/or HR topics. May conduct research and analysis for local/department HR team or centers of expertise (COE) partners and develop solutions and recommend a course of action. May lead small projects or activities. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Preferred Experience advising supervisors on performance management and employee relations matters. Experience leading or supporting full-cycle recruitment in a decentralized or complex environment (higher education preferred). Working knowledge of leave administration (e.g., FMLA) and employee relations processes. Experience collaborating with HR Centers of Expertise or shared services models. Ability to interpret policy and apply sound judgment in addressing employee concerns. Experience working within HRIS and applicant tracking systems (PeopleSoft or similar systems preferred). Demonstrates ability to build effective working relationships across diverse groups of faculty and staff. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
