Job Description
Job Summary The Human Resources Manager supports all HR functions for a construction company, working closely with leadership and field supervisors. This role focuses on recruiting, employee relations, compliance, payroll and benefits support, and day-to-day HR operations, while also coordinating required safety training and supporting the company's safety culture. Key Responsibilities Human Resources (Primary Focus) Recruitment & Onboarding Manage recruiting for field and office positions Coordinate onboarding and new-hire paperwork Track employee certifications, licenses, and required documentation Employee Relations & Support Serve as the main point of contact for employee questions and concerns Support supervisors with performance management, discipline, and terminations Help resolve workplace issues in a practical, fair, and consistent manner HR Administration & Compliance Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws Maintain personnel files, policies, and the employee handbook Support workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and audits Assist with prevailing wage and certified payroll Benefits Support Administer benefits enrollment, changes, and employee communication Track PTO, leaves of absence, and employee status changes Safety Training (Secondary Focus) Coordinate required safety training and new-hire safety orientations Schedule and track OSHA training, toolbox talks, and certifications Maintain safety training records and documentation Support supervisors in enforcing safety policies and procedures Assist with incident reporting and workers' compensation coordination Help keep the safety manual and training materials up to date Training & Company Support Coordinate basic supervisory and compliance training Support company initiatives related to culture, retention, and growth Assist leadership with HR planning and process improvements Qualifications Required 3-5 years of HR experience, preferably in construction or a skilled trades environment Working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices Experience supporting hourly field employees and small teams Strong organizational and communication skills Preferred Spanish Speaking Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) or safety training experience Familiarity with construction payroll, timekeeping, or HR systems Skills & Competencies Hands-on, practical approach to HR Ability to build trust with both field and office employees Comfortable handling confidential matters independently Organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable Work Environment Small-team environment with broad responsibilities
