The Human Resources Generalist supports the full scope of human resources functions and serves as a key partner to employees and management. This role ensures HR programs are effectively administered, compliant, and aligned with agency goals. Assists in screening applicants, maintaining personnel files, and employee databases. Responsible for posting all agency positions and awarding positions in the paraprofessional bargaining unit. Maintains records on work-related injuries and files reports with insurance company. Assists in the initial orientation of newly hired employees. Will work closely with the Human Resources Manager on special projects. This person will also, at times, serve as backup or may be cross-trained to perform the duties of other Human Resource Department staff. Provide a welcoming and engaging environment within the Human Resources Office.QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
BA/BS in Human Resources or Related Field.Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of Human Resources Experience. Must possess excellent keyboarding and computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office Products. Good communication skills—both verbal and written—are required. Good knowledge of correct English usage and spelling, as well as knowledge of organization, punctuation, and composition of business letters and reports. Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills. Lived experiences with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders valued.Other:
Functional computer literacy of Microsoft Office Products required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions, standards of practice (including but not limited to confidentiality and recipient rights), and emergency protocol. Prepares internal job postings. Maintains employee databases, e.g., current rates of pay, position, address, and license/registrations. Coordinates initial paperwork and online training with new hires. Responsible for E-Verify and MI New Hire reporting. May assist in maintaining staff development database for professional and non-union employees. Facilitate new hire onboarding. Monitors probationary status of new employees and periodic evaluations of all employees. Assists in pre-employment screening, i.e., scheduling/performing interviews, references, various background and license checks. Follow-up letters to applicants. Prepares letters of employment and ensures personnel files reflect transfers, promotions, etc. Responsible for maintaining personnel files and records for agency staff. Assists with audits. Prepares and distributes monthly employment reports. Serves on committees to align with agency requirements. Works in conjunction with the Human Resources Manager on various union plans. May assist in the preparation of periodic and special reports such as attrition, work-related injuries by department, Employee Recognition, Longevity, All Staff Training, etc. Maintains Credentialing, AFC Licensing Review Forms, Respite background checks, and the database. Assists the Human Resources Manager with the Recipient Rights procedure. Validate and initiate all Personnel changes and send to Payroll. Organization of Electronic Interview and Orientation Forms. Assists with and tracks discipline and terminations. Conducts exit interviews. Provide resources and direction to assist Supervisors as needed or in the absence of the Human Resources Manager. Maintains Human Resources Generalist Operations Manual.NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required. May be requested to be involved in the Board's continuous quality improvement program. May be required to provide own transportation while performing agency-related duties.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
