Job Description

SUMMARY:
Manage the payroll and benefit activities for the local division and perform a variety of functions associated with the Human Resources Department in a responsible manner and to establish and maintain a positive, open and honest environment with the highest level of integrity and professionalism. Provide leadership and administrative support to ensure clear and consistent application of policies and processes, including enhancing effective communications to achieve business objectives. Assist the Human Resources Director in order to ensure an effective and organized operation. This position supports AWG's mission to remain firmly committed to our long-established mission statement: "Our mission is to ensure the success of our member retailers and provide opportunities to our employees. This will be accomplished by satisfying the customers', and our member retailers', needs for quality supermarket merchandise and superior support services. We will do this with high quality employees whose mission is to provide the lowest possible cost of goods in order to ensure our members profitability, competiveness and continued growth."
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The individual must have the ability to perform the responsibilities listed below. The list is not all inclusive of duties that may be requested by the department head or a member of upper management but are intended for an understanding of the purpose of the position. It is the responsibility of each individual at AWG to provide ultimate customer service to our members to support their efforts in increasing same store sales and profits. Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all division personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains employee handbook and policies and procedures manual. Maintain a high degree of confidentially. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems. Performs benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefit information to employees. Conducts recruitment effort for exempt and nonexempt personnel, conducts new-employee orientations; and writes and places recruiting advertisements. Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing. Maintains division organization charts. Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed. Maintains human resource information system (HRIS) records and compiles reports from the database as required. Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment. Perform data entry of salary and other payroll related changes into ADP, including new hires and terminations. Provide maintenance with the HRIS for Human Resources recordkeeping. Perform data entry for all non-exempt associates' non-productive accruals in the KRONOS time keeping system. Responsible for communicating to management when annual merit reviews and merit increases are due. Keep tracking log of entire review process and assure that necessary approvals are secured prior to affecting the change and ensuring the necessary data is forwarded to payroll. Reply to State Unemployment claims on terminated employees. Responsible for paying department bills, making vouchers and obtaining necessary approval signatures. Obtain necessary vendor numbers, if needed. Administer the Service Award Program, ensuring awards are ordered and received in a punctual manner. Coordinate and implement various programs. This includes but is not limited to the following: Postings regarding Years of Service, birthdays, Promotions, and other AWG events and activities or posting of employee information. Order flowers for hospitalization and funerals of employees and their families. Process all garnishments, child support withholding orders, bankruptcies, and IRS Levies. Maintain all office filing and assure compliance with government and company regulations and procedures regarding record maintenance and retention. Ensure I-9 files are properly maintained. Coordinate employee activities (ie: company picnic, luncheons) Conduct benefit orientations and work with employees to resolve benefit problems and concerns. Help employees understand their benefit coverage. Responsible to track and maintain all appropriate records for all leaves of absences, including working with insurance carrier on short term and long term disability matters. Responsible for maintaining eligibility for 401K enrollments and processing enrollments; processing terminations, ytd hours, vested dates, and changes of address. Maintain a working knowledge of KRONOS, ADP and HWSE systems. Work as a member of the AWG team so the total job responsibilities are met. Actions must always stress a sense of cooperation, integrity, tact and consideration with our members, associates and division management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree and three to five years' human resource experience, or a master's degree in human resource management and two years' experience in the HR field, or seven years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
HR Designation Preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
