Job Description Purpose and Scope The University of Missouri System Human Resources dedicated HR team provides leadership in the planning, integration, and implementation of human resource services and programs for faculty and staff across all campuses and the health system. Our aim is to create a positive and productive work environment with top talent serving internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, UM System HR provides centralized services including benefits, compensation and retirement. Responsibilities 40% Administration of benefit continuation and premium billing and collection for employees on a university approved Leave of Absence including but not limited to medical leave of absence and long-term disability, and faculty and staff on layoff status. Knowledge of policies, research of information, data verification, identification of discrepancies and solutions, and interaction with customers, other departments, and vendors is essential.
  • Review weekly reports to determine new invoices, create customer numbers within the Finance system and calculate premiums amount to invoice
  • Preparing notification letters including applicable documents to continue Flexible Spending Accounts and contributions
  • Preparing payroll reports to collect the employer portion of premium contributions
  • Monitoring and adjusting invoices based on life event changes and upon employee's return to work
  • Administration of overdue notices and cancellation of benefits due to non-payment
  • Maintain internal tracking systems to assure accurate premium contributions are collected
  • Administration of annual updates needed for each new benefits plan year 40% Responsible for administrative processing including premium auditing upon employee returning to work from leave.
  • Submit and process appropriate notices regarding premium contributions
  • Review applicable reports for coverage accuracy; process corrections as needed
  • Enter payroll deductions and adjustments in Finance system
  • Communicate with employees regarding benefit coverage
  • Review employee demographic information and reconcile information with PeopleSoftReview and process payroll connected to leave plans 10% Provide tier two customer service support and problem-solving regarding benefit plan, eligibility, deadlines and processes.
  • Areas of knowledge and customer inquiries include matters pertaining to all Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD's), coverage and eligibility including
  • Custom Network, Core Network, Surest, PPO, Healthy Savings Plan, Health Savings Account, Flex Spending Account, Retiree Health Plans, COBRA, and Medicare eligibility.
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Dental, Vision, Flexible Benefits, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability; and
  • Provide professional, collegial and inclusive dialogue to create effective solutions in a timely manner; May escalate complex issues to supervisor.
  • Respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours; Maintain documentation and process tickets to ensure accurate tracking of issue and resolutions
  • Use of good judgement, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and continual independent learning of benefit and retirement plans, knowledge of HIPAA, and University of Missouri policies is essential to ensure and maintain professional knowledge and provide sound credible advice.
10% Identify and streamline processes for benefit administration as well as work with cross-functional teams to identify improvements to processes that cross between functional areas.
  • Identify potential concerns and minimize user disruption by testing benefit programs in the HRIS system: o Eligibility Files o Annual Enrollment o System Upgrades o System data clean-up Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging University of Missouri human resources policies and practices.
As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri. Shift 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications A bachelor's degree and three years of human resources office experience demonstrating knowledge of basic employment laws, exceptional customer service and organizational skill. Excel spreadsheet skills with experience with macros, v-lookups and pivot tables, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to follow through independently. PeopleSoft experience is helpful. Team player with interpersonal, customer service and communication skills. Proven analytic and problem-solving skills. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Works autonomously and uses sound judgment. Familiarity with university systems and human resources policies or equivalent.
