Job Description

The Human Resources Specialist shall report to the Director of Human Resources. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Advertises vacant positions, builds announcements; posts position announcements on campus, web and other media/professional journals as appropriate; maintains database of possible advertisers and deadlines for same; communicates with advertisers to reserve and ensure placement of advertisements. Manages Onboarding process. Opens and closes applicant files; responds to application questions/inquiries; files, scans, emails, and copies applications to forward to hiring authority for review. Assist with new employee orientation. Responsible for hiring process of new employees including: advertising of all vacant full-time, part-time and work study positions in print, broadcast and direct mail advertising; coordinates the screening and selection process and records for applicants, including generation of new files; completes all appropriate forms Updates and maintains personnel, electronic database files and human resources files, including all paperwork, salaries, status changes, etc.; verifies hiring documents and employment; processes background checks and personnel recommendations; processes all employee terminations. Maintains and updates job descriptions; assists with the annual notification of salary/contracts and annual institutional audit. Manages, maintains, and reconciles budgets; types correspondence including mail, email and memos, files, answers the telephone(s), sends facsimile, schedules appointments and other general office procedures; collects, opens, scans, dates and distributes incoming correspondence; proofreads all materials generated from Human Resources; maintains database of staff labels, college addresses and others as needed; maintains the human resources files; prepares check requests and purchase orders. Coordinates the compensation and salary related activities for the college which includes salary calculations, employment verifications, social security wage verifications, preparation and/or data extrapolation from a variety of local, regional and national salary surveys; preparation of various written reports; market data, analysis and spreadsheets for use in annual salary increases, classification pay plan adjustments, etc. Prepares travel honorariums for interviewees for professional and faculty positions; orders background checks for all full-time new hires. Organizes and administers Annual training. May serves as backup for payroll; assists HR and Payroll with the completion of a variety of reports. May serve on various campus committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or required Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College. High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of human resource or secretarial experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This is a twelve-month non-exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $25.38 - $27.47.
