Pay Range:
$70,000.00-90,000.00 Position Overview The HR Specialist will serve as GEI Utility Construction's first dedicated HR professional, establishing and managing the human resources function for a growing organization of 150+ employees. This individual will be the primary point of contact for all employee-facing HR matters and will be responsible for building scalable HR processes, documentation, and infrastructure. The role operates within a collaborative environment where payroll, operations, and department leadership have been successfully managing HR activities, and will consolidate those efforts under one dedicated function. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle recruitment, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding candidates Maintain employee records and ensure HRIS data integrity Support employee relations by addressing concerns and fostering a positive workplace culture Assist with performance management processes, including reviews and employee development plans Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including regulations related to background screening (e.g., FCRA compliance awareness) Administer employee benefits and respond to employee inquiries Develop, update, and implement HR policies and procedures Develop and update a consolidated employee handbook Coordinate training programs, including compliance and data privacy training Assist with audits and documentation related to HR and regulatory compliance Manage offboarding processes, including exit interviews and documentation Provide supervision and leadership to a team of direct reports Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (preferred) 5-7 years in an HR generalist or specialist capacity Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices Familiarity with background screening regulations (e.g., FCRA) is a plus Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Familiarity with Paylocity or comparable HRIS/payroll platforms and Microsoft Office Suite Ability to work independently, follow established procedures, and create documentation Preferred Qualifications Certifications (preferred): SHRM-CP (SHRM Certified Professional) or PHR (Professional in Human Resources from HRCI). Both represent baseline professional credentials appropriate for this experience level.
