Eugene, Oregon and Springfield, Oregon Starting wage range: $27.00 - $32.90, depending on qualifications Overview Relief Nursery provides comprehensive family support services that are easily accessible to families who are raising children birth through five years of age and who are experiencing high levels of stress. We provide early intervention that centers on building successful and resilient children and strengthening parents. Our staff work as a team to provide a unique array of support, from therapeutic classrooms and outreach programs, to parenting education, substance use disorder recovery support and more. The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting and executing daily HR operations, with a primary focus on recruitment, onboarding, record-keeping, compliance, and general HR administration. This position exercises independent judgment, manages processes from start to finish, and serves as a resource to supervisors on routine HR matters. In alignment with Relief Nursery's mission and values, this role contributes to a culture of shared responsibility, where staff support one another and step in as needed to ensure the organization can effectively serve children and families. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. They are responsible for managing their own workload, prioritizing competing demands, and ensuring timely and accurate completion of work. This role requires the ability to apply HR knowledge to make informed decisions and escalate more complex issues as appropriate. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a high degree of adaptability and flexibility to respond to both planned and emergent needs, including those that arise due to last-minute changes or urgency from others. Responsibilities Recruitment and Onboarding Manage full-cycle recruitment activities including job postings, applicant tracking, scheduling, screening, and interview coordination. Partner with supervisors to support effective hiring practices, providing guidance on recruitment platforms (e.g., Indeed) and process expectations. Maintain and update job descriptions to ensure accuracy and alignment with organizational needs. Represent Relief Nursery at job fairs and recruitment events as needed. Coordinate and ensure completion of pre-employment requirements including background checks, drug testing, DMV checks, and onboarding paperwork. Create and maintain employee profiles in Paycom, ensuring data accuracy. In collaboration with the Director of Workforce Development, Quality and Culture, facilitate and continuously improve the in-person onboarding process for new hires. Ensure all new hire files (digital and hard copy) are complete, compliant, and well-organized. Offboarding Coordinate the offboarding process in partnership with the Director of HR, including preparation of exit paperwork, system updates, and recovery of agency property. Ensure timely and accurate completion of all separation-related processes. Record-keeping and Compliance Maintain up-to-date and compliant personnel files, both physical and electronic. Track employee trainings and certifications to ensure timely completion and compliance. Perform regular audits of HR files and address gaps or discrepancies. Apply knowledge of HR compliance requirements to support accurate documentation and processes. Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive employee information at all times. General Administrative Support Coordinate the workers' compensation reporting process and tracking, as well as assist employees with claim submissions. Support ongoing projects such as open enrollment, employee retention initiatives, and wellness activities. Enter and maintain accurate employee data in Paycom, troubleshooting issues as they arise. Serve on internal committees as an HR representative, contributing HR perspective and supporting implementation of outcomes. Perform routine HR functions and support consistent application of HR policies and procedures across the organization. Event & Meeting Support Assist in planning and executing staff events, trainings, and organization-wide meetings as needed. Safety & Other Duties Collaborate with the Director of HR to support and sustain a Safety Committee, including coordination and follow-through on action items. Respond to emergent or unexpected agency needs with a flexible and proactive approach. Participate in team meetings, site-wide events, and collaborative agency projects. Follow Oregon Child Abuse Reporting laws and Relief Nursery policies. Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications These qualifications support success in this role. At least 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, preferably in a nonprofit or social services setting. Solid working knowledge of human resources principles and best practices, including recruitment, onboarding, and compliance. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to write clearly and professionally. Demonstrated ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with supervisors and staff. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Strong time management, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage competing demands. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer literacy. Experience with HRIS systems (Paycom preferred). Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications refer to job-related education or training, experience, skills, etc. that are beneficial to the position and Relief Nursery, but not a requirement for the position. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or other relevant field. Professional certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM). Experience interpreting and applying HR policies and employment-related regulations. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs) for office, event, or training materials. Travel between Relief Nursery sites required.
