Full Job Description Job Purpose :
As the Principal's designee, the School Staffing Specialist (SSS)/LEA Representative is responsible for coordinating the staffing and educational planning process at the local school. The SSS/LEA serves as the designee of the Local Educational Agency (LEA) in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) meetings at the school where special education eligibility, placement, dismissal, and program changes occur. The person assigned this responsibility will be assisted by the district staffing team in each exceptional student education process at the school. This position will include all ESE, EP, and 504 plans and/or potential plans with the school.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and certification or eligibility for certification by the Florida State Department of Education to teach in the State of Florida. Certification in Exceptional Education (ESE) by the Florida State Department of Education to teach in the staff of Florida. Three (3) years of teaching experience in ESE. Montessori certification or willingness to complete certification as requested by the administration. Previous experience teaching in a Montessori school preferredEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction, Curriculum, and Classroom Management:
Adherence to the 'Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida' (6A-10.0810). Maintain accurate ESE paperwork and supporting documents to reflect the appropriate service delivery models and compliance with service for all ESE students we identified on the 504, IEP or EP. Assist with differentiating instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom. Assist in the development of all IEPs, EPs and documents required for eligible and identified ESE students actively enrolled in the school. Assist with the development of behavior management strategies to include preventative interventions, contracts, and/or behavior management plans. Support staff in planning and organizing lessons that are specific to each student's IEP. Continuously engage in professional development, including conferences, training programs, and courses to deepen understanding of Montessori philosophy, instructional strategies, and best practices in education. Firm commitment to upholding the school's vision, mission, and core values. Perform other related duties as required.Parent Education, Meetings, and Conferences:
Prepare documents and reports necessary for annual meetings or other meetings requested by parents or school administration. Establish open lines of communication with parents/guardians through regular meetings and conferences to discuss student progress. Coordinate with school staff, district staffing specialist, school and/or district administrators, evaluators, service providers, families and parent representatives (advocates and/or attorneys) to convene all Individuals Education Plans (IEPs), Education Plans (Eps), 504, and Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Tier 3 Planning Team meetings at the school. Attend regularly scheduled district training sessions in order to remain current regarding federal and/or FLDOE rules and regulations which impact decisions in meeting the needs and services for the education of students with disabilities and gifted students. Facilitate and provide training to school staff relative to ESE procedures, least restrictive environment, PEER and other ESE related concerns. Attend meetings relevant to teaching at the school or as requested by the administration.Record-Keeping, Compliance, and Data Assessment:
Maintain student records, reports, evaluations, inventories, and tests. Complete all required meetings on time per the state and federal guidelines. Understand and demonstrate efficient use of districtwide management systems to include Skyward, EDW, Certify and PEER. Maintain all ESE student program data within the district's student database ensuring accuracy and current level of service as identified in the student's IEP and EP in order to obtain maximum funding for ESE students. Serve as the school contact for all State Reporting and FTE issues and data regarding exceptional student education through each FTE Survey period. Maintain and organize ESE folder(s) in student cumulative files. Prepare student progress reports and assessment reports as required by administration.Physical Requirements/Activity:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift (up to 20 pounds), finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing acuity, and visual acuity.Indoor and Outdoor:
