In this dynamic role, you will step beyond traditional course scheduling to serve as a vital advocate for a diverse community of in-person, remote, and returning students. As an Academic Advisor at the College of Natural Science and Mathematics (CNSM), you will join a deeply collaborative and inclusive team at UAF dedicated to empowering the next generation of scientists and mathematicians. You will tackle challenges-such as spearheading targeted outreach campaigns, conducting needs assessments, and end-of-course data to design innovative student persistence strategies. Compassionate Communication:
You must be a strong advocate capable of guiding a diverse population of students through their unique academic and personal challenges, ensuring they feel supported in the UAF community.Analytical & Organizational Skills:
A sharp eye for detail is a must. You will frequently evaluate academic records, interpret test scores, and synthesize data to build customized degree plans-acting as a vital "GPS" for each student's educational journey.Collaborative Problem-Solving:
You should be highly team-oriented, bringing the ability to partner seamlessly with faculty to improve retention programs and adapt to student needs.Compliance Expertise:
You must be able to confidently navigate and advocate for essential educational compliance frameworks, including FERPA, Title IX, and Financial Aid regulations.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of experience in advising, teaching or student services or equivalent combination of education and experience.Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, FLSA exempt, benefitted staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 79, with the step based on education and experience above the minimum qualifications.
