Chief Operating Officer & Leadership Team Department:
Business Development / Physician Relations Summary Memorial Ambulatory Surgery Center (MASC) is seeking an experienced Physician Recruiter to identify, court, and onboard high-volume, financially strong surgeons across key specialties to utilize our facility for their outpatient surgical cases. This is a business-development-driven recruiting role focused on building a surgeon panel that maximizes case volume, payer mix, and case profitability while ensuring full clinical and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate combines relationship-building instincts with a working knowledge of ASC economics, case reimbursement, and physician credentialing. Key Responsibilities Build and manage a pipeline of surgeons in target specialties (orthopedics, spine, pain management, ENT and plastics) who are strong candidates for outpatient migration. Identify surgeons currently performing eligible cases in outpatient facilities who could be transitioned to the ASC setting. Leverage physician databases, hospital medical staff rosters, specialty society directories, CMS claims data, and local market intelligence to identify high-volume surgeons in the Houston metro area. Attend regional medical conferences, specialty society meetings, and local hospital events to network with prospective surgeons. Financial & Strategic Screening Partner with the CEO/CEO/Leadership to evaluate prospective surgeons against target case volume, average reimbursement per case, payer mix (commercial vs. government), and supply cost profile by CPT code/specialty. Prioritize outreach toward specialties and procedures with favorable ASC reimbursement rates and lower implant/supply cost burden. Assess a surgeon's current case mix, existing OR block utilization, and potential case volume that could be shifted to the ASC. Recruitment & Negotiation Serve as the point of contact for surgeon recruitment conversations, articulating the value proposition of operating at the ASC (efficiency, autonomy, block time flexibility, patient satisfaction, potential ownership/investment opportunities where legally structured). Coordinate site visits, facility tours, and introductions to the Medical Director, OR leadership, and anesthesia team. Support structuring of syndication/ownership offers where applicable, in close coordination with legal counsel to ensure compliance with Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and CMS ASC ownership safe harbor requirements. Track and manage the recruitment pipeline, providing regular pipeline and forecast reports to leadership. Onboarding Coordination Coordinate with the Credentialing/Medical Staff Office to initiate privileging, payer enrollment, and medical staff bylaws compliance for newly recruited surgeons. Ensure all recruitment activities and any financial arrangements (e.g., ownership interests, marketing service agreements) are reviewed by compliance/legal counsel prior to execution. Facilitate smooth first-case scheduling and post-onboarding check-ins to ensure surgeon satisfaction and retention. Relationship Management & Retention Maintain ongoing relationships with the active surgeon panel to encourage case volume growth, identify dissatisfaction early, and reduce attrition to competing facilities. Gather surgeon feedback on OR efficiency, staff performance, turnover times, and equipment/supply needs and relay to operations leadership. Represent the ASC's brand and reputation professionally within the Houston physician community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, or related field. 5+ years of experience in physician recruitment, healthcare business development, or medical device/surgical sales, ideally within an ASC, hospital, or physician practice environment. Working knowledge of ASC reimbursement models (Medicare, commercial payer contracting) and general familiarity with CPT/specialty case profitability drivers. Demonstrated track record of building and closing physician relationships. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Preferred:
Existing network of surgeons and specialty practices in the greater Houston market. Experience with ASC ownership/syndication models and physician investment structures. Background in orthopedic, spine, or medical device/implant sales. Familiarity with Revenue Cycle Management, EMR systems, and healthcare data/analytics platforms Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Number of new surgeons credentialed and performing cases per quarter. Net new case volume and associated case revenue attributable to recruited surgeons. Payer mix quality of recruited surgeon panel. Surgeon retention rate at 12 and 24 months post-onboarding. Important Note All physician recruitment, marketing, and any financial or ownership arrangements must be reviewed by the ASC's Leadership Team.
