Job Description

The Student Success Ambassador (SSA) position is designed to provide SLCC students with a work opportunity in STEM Learning for Student Success Managers (SSMs). Students will assist SSMs providing personalized guidance, peer mentoring and support for identified STEM students. The Ambassadors will make student contact, visit classes to help students be aware of the resources available to them, be involved with events, assist in outreach, and work closely with SSMs to advance student retention and success with identified students.

The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Demonstrated positive interpersonal/human relations to communicate effectively, build rapport, and project a positive attitude with broad populations and cultural backgrounds in STEM. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Interpersonal problem-solving skills to make appropriate referrals to the SLCC Student Code, Campus Resources, and provide mentoring support. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer operating systems and SLCC's computer systems (Banner, DegreeWorks). Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel. Willingness to learn.
Language Skills:
Must have the ability to read, understand and carry out instructions in written and oral form. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. Currently enrolled at SLCC with a minimum of 9 credits. Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 or higher. STEM Student, declared in a Science, Mathematics, or Engineering (SME) program 2.5 GPA Bilingual Able to present in front of audiences of varying sizes Professional in manner and appearance
