SUMMARY:
The Director of Training and Organizational Development leads the design, development, and delivery of training and workforce development programs across the Company in a high-volume pork processing environment. This role is deeply integrated with plant operations and requires an individual who is willing and able to work regularly on the production floor, partnering directly with operational leaders to build training that drives measurable results in yield, retention, throughput, and safety. The Director must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication, tracking, computer, and internal partnership skills, along with prior experience developing and delivering training content. The incumbent must be capable of working proactively, demonstrate initiative, and be comfortable operating at the pace and conditions of an active processing facility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct supervision of assigned staff. The following functions and teams will report to the
Director of Training and Organizational Development:

  • Technical Training
  • Corporate Training and Talent Development
  • Maintenance Training
  • Yields Team
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Directs the needs assessment for training and staff development to enhance the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the company.
  • Identifies and incorporates best practices and lessons learned into program plans.
  • Reviews and evaluates existing training courses and programs, objectives, and accomplishments (for example, NEO, leadership, and safety). Assesses the effectiveness of training in terms of employee accomplishments and performance.
  • Designs and develops training programs for management and non-management support employees.
  • Builds and delivers training programs designed to drive measurable improvement in operational metrics, including yield, retention, throughput, and safety.
  • Partners directly with operations leadership across the plant to assess needs and embed training into daily production workflows.
  • Applies continuous improvement principles to the design and evaluation of training programs and to the operation of assigned functions.
  • Co-leads, with Human Resources, the Company's performance management and succession planning processes, partnering closely with Human Resources to align talent development, performance review, and succession efforts across all levels of the organization. Human Resources retains ownership of related policy.
  • Conducts training needs assessments to determine measures required to enhance employee job performance and overall company performance.
  • Oversees the new employee orientation and technical teams to identify areas of improvement and engagement to enhance overall retention.
  • Consults with management across the company on performance, organizational, and leadership matters.
  • Contributes to mentoring, coaching, engagement, performance interventions, and succession planning.
  • Develops and maintains an enterprise course catalog and training product warehouse.
  • Utilizes new and existing software to track and maintain training records of employees.
  • Manages the Learning Management System (LMS) through an upcoming transition from ADP to UKG, ensuring it is up to date and effectively utilized.
  • Designs and delivers training that is accessible to a multilingual workforce, ensuring critical content is available in the primary languages spoken across the facility.
  • Conducts and analyzes employee surveys to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepares and submits grant applications to secure funding for training and development initiatives.
  • Collaborates with state and local officials to develop and implement training programs that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Works closely with the yields team to ensure training programs align with yield data obtainment and support yield performance goals.
  • Establishes and reports training key performance indicators and return on investment, connecting program outcomes to operational metrics.
  • Develops and manages the training and organizational development budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of company resources.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in training and development, organizational development, business, operations management, or related discipline; 8 or more years of progressive experience in training and organizational development; 3 to 5 years of leadership experience, including cross-functional or indirect leadership, or a combination of education and experience. Experience designing and implementing training programs that drive measurable operational results. Experience in a manufacturing, food production, or industrial environment strongly preferred. Experience with Learning Management Systems required; experience with UKG, ADP, Absorb LMS, or comparable enterprise platforms, or similar platforms, strongly preferred. Experience with grant writing and submissions preferred.
KNOWLEDGE
Strong development and platform skills. Knowledge of leadership theories and techniques for guiding, motivating, and directing individuals under various situational conditions to achieve effective performance. Must have the drive, motivation, and skill to work toward building a high-performing training and development organization. Strong expertise with software applications and templates supporting training. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.). Skilled in MS Office Suite, Outlook, and Microsoft Exchange.
LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS
CPLP (or
ATD CPTD
) credential preferred. Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement credential preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess the skill set to communicate effectively with others within and outside the Company. Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language, such as general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish, are strongly preferred given the multilingual workforce served by this role.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use computers and all standard programs the industry uses and to learn and effectively use any other programs that are or will be made available. Ability to work collaboratively with employees and management cross-functionally. Ability to deliver outstanding customer service and demonstrate professionalism while maintaining composure in stressful situations. Must be able to meet deadlines and possess good organizational skills. Strong presentation skills. Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods. Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives. Proven effective management skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
