JOB TITLE
Director of Career and Technical Education and Workforce Development
REPORTS TO
Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services and Accountability
SALARY GRADE
State Salary Schedule commensurate with degree, certification, and experience Nature of Work The Director of Career and Technical Education & Work Force Development develops, administers, and coordinates the local career/technical education program as an integral part of the total instructional curriculum in accordance with the State Plan for Career and Technical Education, and local and state boards of education policies. The director provides guidance and direction to all CTE personnel. The overall effectiveness of career and technical education is the responsibility of the director. Duties and Responsibilities (in collaboration with immediate supervisor) Develops a comprehensive long-range local plan which details goals, objectives, and strategies to support area needs and student interests. Prepares annually an operating plan for the next year specifying curriculum enrollment, and budgeting of resources. Designs specifications for equipment, facilities, and safety standards to accommodate each course of study. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data to prepare reports for local, state, and federal agencies. Recommends to the local administration career/technical education courses to be initiated, expanded, or eliminated. Promotes career/technical education with news media and civic organizations through speeches, presentations, and/or written communication. Meets with advisory groups, governmental agencies and serves on various external committees to acquire relevant information and support for the career and technical education program. Develops and maintains a cooperative relationship with higher education, labor, business, and industry. Determines staff development needs. Supervising Responsibilities (in collaboration with immediate supervisor) Establishes procedures for receipt and expenditure of funds in compliance with local, state, and federal policies and regulations. Formulates and implements procedures for acquisition and inventory control of equipment and materials. Determines priority, best source and authorizes purchases of instructional materials and equipment within limitations of the current budget. Identifies qualifications needed by career and technical education staff. Maintains contacts with potential teacher sources to fill program vacancy needs. Verifies eligibility for certification, processes supportive documents and assists individuals in obtaining required professional development experiences. Recommends individual applicants for selection and assignment. Provides support to career and technical education staff in use of facilities, instructional delivery and public relations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with and develop statistical data. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both business and education committees.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally, the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files, paper, school supplies, books, etc.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.
Education and Experience:
Current Master's level License in a CTE program area (711 Career and Technical Education Director) or Current License as principal/school administrator (wil1 need to obtain the 711 Career and Technical Education Director license).
Related Work Experience:
Teaching, CTE Support Services, supervisory or administrative experience. (If a candidate is qualifying with supervisory or administrative experience, a minimum of two years supervising or administering Career and Technical Education programs are required).
Related Years of Experience:
5 years within the past 8 years
