We are a small center providing intervention to families that typically have students struggling several years behind their grade level but without a clear pathway to help the child succeed. We work with very specialized curriculum to help build the underlying learning SKILLS that some students may be missing (we are not homework help). Expect to learn a lot about how the mind works and the satisfaction of (slowly) seeing unsuccessful students gain back confidence in themselves. Considering that we use a number of programs to target specific student needs, and these programs are very different from traditional methods, a successful candidate would be very curious to learn, willing to continue practicing and researching to build on their training in their first month(s) on the job in order to really become well versed in the curriculum. Preparation is vital. This is not easy work! You will learn and grow with access to other knowledgable and caring staff who are helping change students' lives, but it requires a lot of team work and personal initiative. Prior experience working with students, especially those with diagnosed or undiagnosed learning challenges in important. As you are working with a fixed student "caseload" we request candidates apply who see themselves remaining in this role for a minimum of 1 year. We value seeing each student as an individual, including an honest view of the delays and challenges in their learning and the willingness to help them fix the "breaks" in their learning process to help them become comfortable, independent learners by doing the work designed in the program. There are no shortcuts, but there is hope. 10 to 24 hours per week available, must be available afternoons between 4 and 7 in addition to optional morning or Saturday hours.
