Job Description:
This role combines instructional leadership, mentorship, and technology management in after-school programs and summer camps serving K-12 youth. This position is ideal for curious, ambitious individuals such as a recent college graduate or emerging educator who enjoys learning and experimenting with technology. You do not need to be an expert in coding, robotics, or virtual reality to apply. Training, resources, and guidance will be provided. What matters most is a interest in technology, problem-solving, and youth development, along with a creative, go-getter attitude. In addition to supporting daily program operations, the Youth Innovation Instructor leads technology initiatives, manages equipment, trains staff, and contributes ideas for future technology-based activities and grants. They are also responsible for creating and implementing a structured, sustainable technology plan to ensure resources, curriculum, and programming are organized, documented, and consistently applied across all programs. Organizational Responsibilities:
Maintain compliance with applicable state, county, and licensing regulations, including emergency procedures Complete required documentation such as attendance logs, accident reports, permission slips, and registration materials Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, and staff Support program registration, enrollment tracking, and payment documentation Supervise and model professional behavior for staff as needed Assist with marketing efforts, including photographing activities and representing Pinellas PAL at community events Collaborate with staff and leadership to ensure program consistency and alignment Maintain proactive communication with Program Coordinators and leadership Respond to work-related emails within 48 hours Attend and actively participate in required meetings
Programming & Instruction:
Plan and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate STEM activities for youth, families, and staff Facilitate hands-on coding, robotics, and virtual reality experiences using organization-provided tools and curriculum Mentor youth, building curiosity, confidence, and problem-solving skills Lead family and community events with interactive technology experiences Deliver standards-aligned programming in line with Florida B.E.S.T., Florida Computer Science Standards, ISTE National Technology Standards, and 21st Century Skills frameworks Establish measurable learning objectives, track progress, and adapt instruction to ensure continuous skill development in coding, robotics, digital design, and applied STEM problem- solving Teach and reinforce safe, ethical, and responsible technology use, including digital citizenship, privacy awareness, and online safety Introduce youth to STEM career pathways, emerging technologies, and real-world applications to build early workforce readiness Assist in executing special events, including some evenings and weekends Drive participants for program-related activities as needed
Technology & Equipment Management:
Maintain accurate inventory of all technology equipment, including, but not limited to, VR headsets, robotics kits, and related tools Ensure proper storage, safety, care, and maintenance of all equipment Identify items needing repair or replacement Educate staff and youth on safe and responsible technology use Develop and maintain a long-term, phased technology plan to ensure consistent and sustainable implementation across programs Document technology processes, curriculum, and procedures to ensure continuity and scalability
Facilities & Safety:
Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces Identify and address potential hazards and behavioral conflicts File incident reports on the same day Oversee opening and closing procedures when assigned Support food handling procedures and cleanliness of food areas Transport students safely in company vans, maintaining vehicle cleanliness and readiness
Other Responsibilities:
Contribute creative ideas for new technology programming and STEM initiatives Support or assist in identifying and writing technology-focused grant proposals to fund equipment, curriculum, and STEM initiatives Perform other duties as assigned
