Chapman School of Seamanship is seeking an experienced Yamaha-certified marine technician to join our technical training program as a Senior Yamaha Marine Technician - Technical Instructor. This is an opportunity to bring the diagnostic knowledge, practical judgment, and hands-on experience you have built in the marine service industry into a role that helps develop future marine technicians. You do not need a traditional teaching background to succeed here. If you are an experienced technician who enjoys helping junior technicians learn, explaining how to solve difficult problems, and sharing what you know, we want to hear from you. What you'll do Deliver hands-on and classroom-based technical instruction for Yamaha outboard service and maintenance. Demonstrate sound diagnostic and troubleshooting practices using real-world service scenarios. Help students build the technical confidence, work habits, and practical skills needed for careers in marine service. Prepare and deliver instructional materials, demonstrations, and practical training activities. Evaluate student performance and maintain required records, including grades and attendance. Support curriculum development and continuous improvement of the technical training program. Maintain a safe, organized, and effective shop and training environment. Help manage training equipment, materials, and inventory. Represent Chapman School of Seamanship professionally with students, industry partners, and colleagues. What we're looking for Required Current Yamaha technician certification. At least three years of professional experience working on Yamaha outboard engines. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. Ability to clearly explain technical procedures and concepts. A practical, safety-focused approach to shop work and instruction. Strong communication skills and a professional, dependable work style. Preferred Experience mentoring, training, or developing junior technicians or apprentices. Formal classroom teaching experience is welcome, but not required. Yamaha diagnostic-system experience. Yamaha rigging experience. Marine electrical or NMEA/electronics experience. Experience developing training materials or supporting curriculum. Experience with student records, learning-management systems, or Microsoft Office. Compensation and benefits $75,000-$90,000 per year , based on Yamaha certification, relevant technical experience, and instructional experience.
