Position Information Classification Title Grants Writer II FLSA Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience Preferred Qualifications Master's or PhD in a STEM discipline Superior editing and proofreading skills 3 years of experience editing scientific/academic writing 5 years of experience working with academic faculty Broad lay knowledge of academic research Demonstrated breadth of academic interests Knowledge of the federal grant landscape Experience writing, developing, editing, administering, or otherwise contributing to grant proposals to NSF and NIH Experience mentoring, coaching, advising, or instructing in an academic or similar setting Public speaking ability Position Summary Under the direction of the Director in the Office for Strategic Research Development, perform professional level duties related to the development of research grant writing ability and knowledge ("grantsmanship") across the University of Georgia's research enterprise. This includes working intensively with individual faculty to develop grant proposals and instruct them in grantsmanship. It also includes developing and delivering grantsmanship workshops and other outreach activities. This position requires experience working closely with academic faculty; knowledge of research grant proposal development; and superior writing, editing, and proofreading ability. Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Faculty Grantsmanship Development:
Assist academic research faculty in developing funding strategies for their program of research; advise on which funding opportunities are well suited to their research interests and stage of professional development. Work closely with faculty to develop the narrative components of research grant proposals for extramural funding. Proofread and edit grant proposal narrative documents for grammar, clarity, style, and impact. Work with faculty to improve their argument for funding. Use independent judgment to create templates or outlines for project narratives and other complex proposal parts that align with the solicitation and other sponsor selection criteria. Connect faculty to resources on campus to help strengthen their proposals. Percentage of time 70
Duties/Responsibilities Grantsmanship Training and Outreach:
Develop grantsmanship resources to assist faculty university-wide in successfully developing their research funding portfolios. These activities include but are not limited to panel discussions, grant writing workshops, guest speaker visits, and on-demand grantsmanship modules. Recruit faculty to participate in panel discussions and other events. Promote and advertise events to UGA research community. Emcee and provide logistical support for events. Deliver presentations and info sessions about grant funding, grant writing, and OSRD services to UGA departments, schools, and centers and institutes.
