5515 Security Lane, Suite 1105 Rockville, MD 20852 ______________________________________________________________________________ Position Summary The Development Officer Specialist plays a key role in advancing NFCR's fundraising programs, with a focus on annual giving and donor cultivation. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will help strengthen an integrated, year-round acquisition and cultivation program, including annual campaigns, in-house direct mail, and email solicitation initiatives, in coordination with NFCR's external direct mail program. The Specialist will develop and implement a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies—email, direct mail, phone, and other channels—designed to build a sustainable tradition of annual support for key program areas, including Corporate Match/Payroll Giving, Honor/Memorial Gifts, the Rose Fund, Sustainers Program, and In-House Mail Programs. Key Responsibilities Donor Portfolio Management
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of prospects across annual support programs. Revenue Development
  • Manage and grow specialty giving revenue streams in coordination with the Executive Director. Campaign Planning & Execution
  • Design, implement, and evaluate annual campaigns to increase participation, attract new donors, retain and upgrade existing donors, and maximize net return. In-House Appeals Program
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to manage in-house appeals, including vendor selection, production process oversight, and ROI tracking to meet or exceed industry benchmarks. Performance Analysis
  • Conduct regular assessments of annual fund performance, including donor pool analysis, response rates, ROI, and other metrics. Use findings to guide future solicitation strategies. Collaboration
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the organization to leverage resources and implement best practices. Additional Duties
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support NFCR's fundraising goals.
Qualifications Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Minimum two years of experience in fundraising, charitable gift solicitation, sales, or marketing. Knowledge of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship principles. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and persuasively. Familiarity with CRM platforms and ability to learn new database systems quickly. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events. Willingness to travel for donor cultivation as needed. Education Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must have two+ years of experience in a fundraising position.
Work Environment This role operates in a hybrid environment, with four days per week in the office and one day remote. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. Physical demands are consistent with those of an individual contributor in a nonprofit office setting. The Development Officer Specialist is a key contributor to NFCR's development strategy, focusing on donor portfolio management, retention, cultivation, and stewardship, as well as implementing targeted communications strategies for NFCR donors and prospects.
