Teen Center Leadership Position Summary The Boys & Girls Club of Central New Mexico is seeking an energetic, positive, patient, and passionate Youth Development Professional to join our Teen Center team. This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young people, knows how to have fun while maintaining appropriate boundaries, and wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Albuquerque-area youth. Our Teen Center is more than a place for young people to spend time after school. It is a place where teens can build relationships, discover their interests, develop leadership skills, receive academic support, participate in engaging activities, and feel a sense of belonging. The Youth Development Professional will play an important role in creating that environment. We are looking for someone who brings energy, patience, creativity, reliability, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed. If you are the type of person who can lead an activity one minute, help a teen with homework the next, support a teammate, help set up an event, and still bring a positive attitude at the end of the day — this may be the position for you. Essential Responsibilities Youth Engagement & Relationship Building Build positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with teens and young adults. Create a welcoming environment where every member feels valued, respected, and included. Actively engage with youth rather than simply supervising from the sidelines. Encourage participation in programs, activities, clubs, and Teen Center opportunities. Serve as a positive role model and demonstrate professionalism, patience, integrity, and respect. Help youth develop confidence, leadership skills, independence, and positive decision-making skills. Program Support & Facilitation Assist with planning, organizing, and facilitating engaging after-school activities and programs. Lead or support activities such as sports, recreation, arts, STEM, academic support, workforce readiness, leadership, and special events. Be willing to learn and facilitate Boys & Girls Club programs and curricula. Help create activities that are fun, relevant, age-appropriate, and responsive to the interests of teens. Support Teen Center events, field trips, community activities, and special programming. Teen Center Operations Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming Teen Center environment. Follow all BGCCNM and Boys & Girls Clubs of America safety policies and procedures. Assist with member check-in, attendance, transitions, and daily routines. Help with setup, cleanup, room organization, and preparation for activities and events. Monitor youth while maintaining an active, positive presence throughout the facility. Communicate concerns, incidents, and member needs to Teen Center leadership. Teamwork & Flexibility Work collaboratively with Teen Center staff, supervisors, volunteers, community partners, and other BGCCNM departments. Be comfortable wearing multiple hats and stepping into different responsibilities as the needs of the Teen Center change. Support coworkers and contribute to a positive team culture. Demonstrate flexibility when schedules, activities, or priorities change. Bring a solutions-oriented attitude and willingness to help wherever needed. Is willing to learn, take direction, accept feedback, and grow professionally. Can adapt quickly and confidently when asked to take on different responsibilities. Is passionate about youth development and wants their work to have a meaningful impact. Believes young people deserve adults who show up for them, encourage them, and believe in their potential. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required . Experience working with children, teens, or young adults preferred. Experience with youth-serving organizations in Albuquerque is preferred. Experience working with Boys & Girls Clubs, schools, recreation programs, community organizations, or other mission-driven nonprofits is a plus. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with youth, families, coworkers, and community partners. Must be able to successfully complete required background screening and organizational onboarding requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to actively participate in youth programming and recreational activities. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout the Teen Center for extended periods. Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds or more as required for program activities, equipment, supplies, and facility operations. Ability to respond appropriately to the physical and operational needs of a busy youth-serving environment. Career Growth BGCCNM believes in developing its employees as well as its members.
