Overall Function:
The Challenge Course Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality experiential programs and ensuring the safe, effective operation of Camp Joy's challenge course. This role facilitates both low and high elements, supports program development, and maintains strong safety and risk management practices in alignment with Camp Joy and ACCT standards. Summary of Responsibilities 1.
Program Delivery & Facilitation:
a. Deliver high-quality challenge course programming across all Camp Joy program areas. b. Facilitate low ropes, team-building initiatives, and high ropes elements. c. Lead meaningful debriefs that promote reflection, skill transfer, and group development. d. Adapt programming based on participant needs, developmental levels, and environmental conditions. 2.
Program Development & Innovation:
a. Assist in the development and continuous improvement of challenge course programming. b. Contribute to innovative program design and experiential learning initiatives. c. Support staff development related to facilitation and challenge course operations. 3.
Safety & Risk Management:
a. Adhere to all Camp Joy safety policies, procedures, and risk management standards. b. Facilitate challenge courses in alignment with ACCT standards. c. Maintain safe, clean, and organized program areas and equipment. d. Respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies, ensuring timely communication with supervisors. 4.
Customer Service & Collaboration:
a. Provide positive and professional experience for all participants and client groups. b. Collaborate effectively with team members to support program goals and operational success. 5.
Professionalism & Team Contribution:
a. Uphold Camp Joy's mission, values, and culture through professional conduct. b. Complete required documentation, including: i. Course usage reports ii. Incident reports iii. Equipment logs and database updates iv. Payroll and administrative forms c. Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree, certification, or equivalent experience in education, recreation, outdoor education, or a related field.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with diverse age groups and populations.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Camp Joy's insurability requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain physically active for extended periods.
  • Maintain or obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (training provided).
Technical & Safety Requirements:
  • Ability to meet ACCT Level 2 Practitioner standards with training, including: o Recognizing and managing inherent risks in challenge course environments o Supervising participants at heights up to 60 feet o Safely maneuvering and assisting participants at height
Pay:
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour
