Executive Director Schedule:
Tuesday - Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 8am-4pm The Shelter Manager oversees the day-to-day performance and operations functions of the Toccoa Stephens County Humane Shelter.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide supervision to the Animal Care team (12 people) and runs the Adoption Center including coordinating work schedules, evaluating work results, and providing/coordinating training to improve performance.
  • Oversee daily animal care including ensuring the cleaning/ sanitation of kennels/equipment is completed on an on-going basis and in a humane, effective and efficient way.
  • Manages communication with the public through phone calls, email, and social media. This includes recruiting and maintaining relationships with our volunteers.
  • Schedules and manages owner surrender appointments and coordinates with the intake team (2 people).
  • Ensure animals are being cared for, treated and medicated properly and be constantly aware of the animals' conditions.
  • Ensure staff keeps accurate records for all animals.
  • Assist with coordinating transports to other shelters including directing van set up and cleaning.
  • Proactively manage disease control and animal health programs; work with the Executive Director to report any disease issues to appropriate agencies.
  • Serve as a liaison to regional animal welfare/control agencies as needed. Coordinate with the Marshals Service that handles Animal Control responsibilities.
  • Carefully monitor population metrics and animal pathways. Act as a part of the decision-making team when euthanasias are considered.
  • Post stray animals on social media in a timely manner and coordinate reclaims as needed.
  • Work with the Executive Director to provide support in the screening, hiring, training and evaluating of employees; directly manage confidential employee records/files.
  • Supervise direct reports following protocols and procedures as outlined in the current employee manual and standard operating procedures manual.
  • Provide timely evaluations and accountability as needed for direct reports in accordance with the current employee manual.
  • Prepare all staff assignments and schedules to ensure operations are covered and in accordance with budgetary guidelines.
  • Make regular inspections to ensure work of staff is accomplished according to standard operating procedures. Responsible for providing direction and coaching to staff members to ensure proper completion of the work
  • Conduct and participate in meetings with staff to review procedures, discuss workplace issues and share ideas. Meet with the Executive Director regularly to develop long-range programs in alignment with the strategic plan, review policies and procedures, and budgetary issues.
  • Provide or coordinate staff training as needed to promote staff development and safety.
  • Perform ACE or Adoption Center duties when short staffed or as needed.
Education/Experience:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent applicable professional work experience desired.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of previous animal shelter, or similar, experience desired.
  • A minimum of two (2) years direct staff supervisory experience and two (2) years working with the general public in a customer/client focused position desired.
  • Proven personnel training and department staffing experience desired.
  • Previous experience with PetPoint software, or other animal shelter software highly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of animal health, care, and welfare, and an understanding of the human-animal bond.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, as well as other relevant shelter management tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative work environment
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills, demonstrating accountability in all tasks.
  • Emotional intelligence, work ethic, and integrity, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Able to exercise sound judgment when addressing personnel, animal, and client issues
  • Able to manage a diverse team and promote a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and respect
  • Ability to remain composed and effective in stressful or emotionally charged situations
  • Flexible work schedule, including on-call
  • Ability to become certified and perform humane euthanasia as required The person selected for this position must be able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must be at least 21 years of age; Valid Driver's License, insurable driving record and have and maintain personal driving insurance.
Working Conditions:
Work Environment:
Most work is performed in normal shelter setting; potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases; potential for exposure to dangerous and fractious animals; exposure to high noise levels when in kennel area; potential for animal bites and scratches while handling animals; exposure to cleaning products; exposure to various weather conditions when working outside. Exposure to clients showing a wide range of emotions including hostility.
Physical Activities Include:
Potential for standing, walking and sitting up to eight (8) or more hours a day; listening and verbally speaking on the telephone and in person; scrubbing and mopping; sitting at a desk; performing repetitive data entry; driving on behalf of the Organization; bending, squatting, cleaning; performing physical examinations on animals; animal restraint; handling syringes and needles. Must be able to properly lift as much as 50lbs independently.
Pay:
$40,000.00 per year
