Job Description

Summary:
The Animal Care and Adoption Counselor performs routine animal care and related duties at AniMeals. The work involves cleaning and the maintaining kennel areas and performing related shelter duties. Workers carry out daily assignments, follow through on various matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions in order to deal with recurring situations.
Scheduling:
Looking for a full-time employee, schedule is from 8am - 5pm 5 days a week, Saturday through Wednesday. You get two 15 minutes breaks as well as a 1 hour long lunch every day. We are looking for someone willing to work on Saturdays and Sundays. Days off will be together, no split days off.
Essential Job Tasks:
1. Clean kennels and perform associated sanitary duties. 2. Perform center duties including receiving animals brought to center. 3. Routinely check animals for infection, disease, or sickness and report appropriately. Submit observation sheets to the Intensive Care Unit staff. 4. Update, edit, and correct data files on animals. 5. Maintain proper inventory of cleaning and other supplies. Inform management when reordering is required. 6. Supply required food as necessary. 7. Assist other employees as needed.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Treat all animals humanely, with compassion and concern, both on and off the job and promote these values to others. 2. Assist with tours, fundraising activities, and special events as needed. 3. Answer telephone calls from the public in a professional manner, has ability to direct calls to the proper person or department and initiates follow-ups. 4. Pre-approve adoptions and perform adoptions. 5. Pre-approve foster applications.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
1. Knowledge of basic methods and procedures of kennel cleaning. 2. Ability to deal courteously with the public. 3. Ability to handle animals safely and effectively. 4. Ability to keep kennels clean efficiently. 5. Valid Montana Drivers license with a clear driving record for at least one year prior to application. 6. Must have basic computer skills using standard office programs such as Word or similar programs. 7. Ability to learn and adapt to changing situations.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements:
Must be in good health. Any allergies that would be aggravated from exposure or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities may be a disqualification. Must stand, walk, bend and stoop frequently to perform duties. Must also have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
Working Conditions:
May be exposed to hostile or abusive members of the public. Must be able to deal with an often times emotion-charged public and carry a fast-paced and changing work load which at times can be stressful. By nature of the job, there is occasional exposure to injured, sick, or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and infectious diseases. Will be around many cats, some more social than others. Pay and Benefits This position pays $16/hr. and offers paid time off based on an accrual system. Paid time off begins to accrue on hire date, but access to use PTO is only gained after completing the 90 day probationary hiring period. There are two days of paid sick leave accessible after start date, these do not roll over each year. Paid time off must also be approved by the shelter manager, with requests submitted in advance.
