Job Description for Kennel Attendant A kennel attendant is responsible for daily animal care-including feeding, cleaning kennels, monitoring health, exercising animals and maintaining sanitary facility—while supporting customer service, accurate recordkeeping, and digital and social media duties. Duties include the following but is not all inclusive and will include other duties as assigned. Animal Care
- Provide daily food and fresh water according to shelter dietary plans.
- Exercise animals by letting in and out of dog yard, walks on leash and any other assigned enrichment activities.
- Monitor dogs' behavior and health; report illness, injury, or abnormal behavior to Animal Control Supervisor or ACO on duty.
- Perform basic grooming such as bathing and brushing. Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, runs, and common areas daily.
- Sanitize bowls, toys, carriers, and other equipment.
- Manage laundry, waste disposal, and maintain organized workspaces. Customer & Facility Support
- Assist with intake and discharge of dogs, including paperwork and owner communication.
- Provide a welcoming experience for visitors, fosters and adopters.
- Maintain accurate records in kennel management. Required Skills & Qualifications
- Compassion and patience with dogs.
- Physical stamina for lifting, walking, and cleaning.
- Attention to detail for sanitation and recordkeeping.
- Ability to safely handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments.
