Job Description
Job Overview Join our dedicated team as a Shelter Kennel Assistant and play a vital role in providing compassionate care and support for animals in our shelter. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work closely with cats and dogs, ensuring their well-being, cleanliness, and safety while assisting with daily kennel operations. Your enthusiasm and animal handling skills will help create a welcoming environment for both animals and visitors, making a positive impact on their lives every day. This can be a loud, physically strenuous and emotionally exhausting job. All interviews will be working interviews. Responsibilities Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kennels, cages, cat rooms and common areas to promote a healthy environment for animals. Handle dogs safely using proper animal restraint techniques to prevent injury and reduce stress. Assist with dog training activities to encourage good behavior and socialization. Provide pet grooming such as bathing, brushing, and basic hygiene care to keep animals comfortable and healthy. Support staff with animal handling during medical examinations, vaccinations or treatments, including administering medications. Engage with animals through training and play to promote mental stimulation and reduce anxiety. Offer excellent customer service by answering visitor questions, providing information about adoptable animals, and guiding potential adopters through the adoption process. Perform heavy lifting when necessary to move supplies, clean equipment, or assist in kennel setup. (Up to 50lbs) Requirements Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Willing to work all holidays. Reliable transportation. Knowledge of dog training techniques and animal handling skills to ensure safe interactions is a plus. Experience working as a kennel assistant is highly desirable. Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting, scrubbing kennels and standing for extended periods of time. Strong understanding of pet care, animal restraint, and general animal behavior. Excellent communication skills with a friendly attitude towards donors, potential adopters, volunteers and team members. Join us in making a difference by caring for animals in need!
