Canine CellMates / Beyond The Bars is seeking a motivated, dependable Kennel Technician to join our team at our West Midtown Atlanta facility. About Canine CellMates Canine CellMates is a unique nonprofit organization with a mission of "Utilizing Shelter Dogs to Break the Cycle of Incarceration." Through our programs, rescue dogs become the catalyst for transformation — helping both dogs and people build brighter futures. We believe in rehabilitation instead of punishment, and we operate through the principles of positive reinforcement, compassion, accountability, and respect. Position Summary Kennel Technicians provide direct, hands-on care for the dogs in our facility and help maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment. This role is physically active, fast-paced, and deeply rewarding. Ideal candidates are dependable team players who genuinely care about animal welfare and are comfortable working with dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and common areas according to CCM protocols Feed dogs and provide fresh water as instructed Safely handle and walk dogs using approved handling techniques Administer medications as directed Observe dogs for medical or behavioral concerns and communicate observations to supervisors Assist with transporting sick or injured dogs to veterinary appointments when needed Support daily facility operations and complete additional tasks as assigned Desired Skills & QualificationsAnimal Care Experience Knowledge of basic animal care principles and practices Ability to confidently and compassionately interact with dogs Communication Skills Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to interact professionally with staff, volunteers, and program participants Attention to Detail Ability to recognize changes in dog behavior, health, or needs and communicate them appropriately Ability to follow guidelines and checklists, and be aware of things that are out of place or not according to guidelines Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance Reliability & Flexibility Dependable transportation required Flexible schedule, including some weekends and holidays Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred At least 1 year of experience in animal care, kenneling, boarding, veterinary, or shelter environments required Must be willing to submit to drug screening if requested People with criminal records are encouraged to apply Must genuinely love dogs
