Job Description

Job Summary Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Kennel Technician is someone that has a background in canine care, canine handling, and kennel sanitation or is wanting to learn more about these areas. In addition to understanding daily kennel management, the Kennel Technician will need strong skills in organization, scheduling, adhearence to company and ADI standards and policies. Duties Sanitation/Maintenance Assist in daily cleaning and disinfecting kennels, exercising areas, training spaces, and grounds using approved cleaning supplies, tools, and methods. Assist in cleaning and sanitizing toys, beds, feeding bowls, crates, and other equipment. Report maintenance problems or repairs to the Facility Manager. Canine Feeding Prepare and dispense food in appropriate amounts and time intervals, including feeding of special diets to kennel dogs and puppies per feeding instructions and guidelines. Prepare specific diets for individual dogs and oversee the preparation of special diets and amounts. Canine Care Provide quality care and a safe environment to kenneled dogs and puppies. Seek immediate assistance to a dog or puppy in distress. Understand approved commands and leash etiquette for all dogs whether in professional training, puppy, or graduate program. Assist in emergency first aid, wound treatment, tests, and exams. Groom dogs including bathing, trimming hair, and nails. Exercise and socialize dogs and puppies in approved locations. Provide behavioral correction, as necessary. Participate in Operational and Facility specific meetings as needed. Inventory Report needed supplies to Facility Manager. Administration Assist with kennel support volunteers, such as bathing, walking, exercising, as well as teach and enforce appropriate canine management in the kennel environment. Work with staff and volunteers with special events and tours as needed. Provide quality customer service. Be accountable not only for direct responsibilities outlined in this program description but also to serve fellow staff and other constituents with whom position interacts. Ensure actions and communications follow core values. Schedule accordingly with other Kennel Technicians and the Facility Manager. Client Services Assist with Preparing rooms for incoming clients. Respect the privacy of the clients while monitoring safety and housekeeping issues. Facility Coordination Monitor dorm rooms and ensure that appliances and equipment are working prior to client arrival. Ensure all windows and doors are secured at the end of the day. Set campus alarms when appropriate. All other duties as assigned by supervisor or department. Skills Experience in dog training or handling is preferred. Background in veterinary assistance or technician roles is a plus. Knowledge of pet grooming techniques is beneficial. Familiarity with animal care practices and safety protocols. Ability to perform heavy lifting and manage physically demanding tasks. Experience in kennel settings or similar animal care environments is advantageous.
