Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities Conduct Training Sessions Lead or support day camp training, group classes and private lessons for basic obedience (sit, stay, come, leash manners, etc.) Practice positive reinforcement techniques under supervision Learn from Senior Trainers Work Directly with Dogs Handle dogs of all sizes, ages, and temperaments Practice basic training cues and socialization exercises Reinforce good behavior with treats, toys, and praise Communicate with Pet Owners Explain techniques and homework to clients Offer support and encouragement to help owners stay consistent Answer basic questions under trainer supervision Track Progress and Behavior Keep accurate training notes for each session Report any behavioral concerns or improvements to the lead trainer Maintain a Safe & Clean Training Environment Sanitize training areas and equipment Ensure dogs are safe and comfortable during training Follow proper handling procedures to prevent accidents or injuries Participate in Ongoing Education Attend staff meetings, workshops, or webinars Stay up to date on modern training techniques and animal behavior science Support Facility Operations (if applicable) Help with kennel cleaning, feeding, or walking dogs if part of a daycare or boarding facility Assist with client check-in/check-out procedures Qualifications Minimum of 1-2 years of recent animal handling experience Must present 2-3 professional client references Ability to stand for up to 8 hours and bend repetitively Ability to lift and carry dogs and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. These qualifications and experiences help ensure that the Trainer maintains high standards of care and safety, creates a welcoming environment for pets and owners, and works well in a fast-paced team environment. You're right for this role if you can demonstrate competencies in the following areas: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings. Experience Basic experience handling dogs (personal pets, dog walking, volunteering at shelters, etc.) Comfortable working with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and energy levels Demonstrated interest in dog behavior or training (through reading, online courses, or informal experience) Customer service or people-facing experience is a plus (trainers need to coach humans as well as dogs!) Experience using positive reinforcement techniques (even if informally) is highly preferred Previous work in pet care (daycare, boarding, vet clinics, grooming, etc.) is a bonus but not required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, compassion, and a deep love for animals. Physical ability to stand, walk, and handle dogs for extended periods. This position requires a responsible individual with a passion for animal care.
