Charlestown is an established, woman-owned and operated small business in the heart of Charlestown, offering professional dog walking, grooming, and retail. We're proud to have built a close-knit team centered around exceptional pet care, strong client relationships, teamwork, and treating every dog in our care as if they were our own. We're looking for a dependable, energetic, and experienced Professional Part-Time Dog Walker to join our team. This isn't simply a job for someone who loves dogs. We're looking for someone who wants to understand them . Canine body language, behavior, safe handling, and learning each dog's individual personality and needs are all important parts of providing the level of care we expect at WAGS. Schedule This position is currently three days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Applicants must be consistently available all three days. Walkers typically arrive at WAGS between 10:00-10:15 AM to pick up keys and begin their route. Light days typically finish around 1:00-1:30 PM Busier days usually wrap up around 2:30-3:00 PM Daily hours may vary depending on our walking schedule For the right person, there is potential to expand this position to additional weekdays and/or full-time hours if desired and as availability allows.Additional opportunities may also include:
Occasional dog sitting Off-hour walks Weekend walks These opportunities are optional and based on availability. What You'll Do Safely walk dogs individually and in small, thoughtfully matched groups Handle dogs of various sizes, breeds, temperaments, and energy levels Use proper dog handling, leash management, and restraint techniques to keep dogs safe and secure Follow daily route schedules and individual client instructions Learn each dog's individual personality, needs, walking style, and established handling plan Observe each dog's behavior and physical condition throughout the walk Promptly communicate any signs of stress, illness, injury, or unusual behavior Provide thoughtful updates about each dog's walk, behavior, and wellbeing Communicate clearly and consistently with the WAGS team and our clients Maintain walking equipment and follow all WAGS safety and handling protocols Provide attentive, compassionate care in all New England weather, including rain, snow, heat, and cold Use sound judgment and quick problem-solving skills when unexpected situations arise Help maintain the high standard of care our clients expect from WAGS Who We're Looking For Our ideal candidate is someone who is: Dependable, punctual, responsible, and honest Genuinely comfortable and confident around dogs Patient, compassionate, and attentive Interested in canine behavior, body language, handling, and training Energetic and comfortable being outdoors and on their feet for several hours Comfortable following established safety protocols and instructions A strong communicator and team player Able to work independently and make good decisions on the road A fast learner who can follow directions and adapt Comfortable using a smartphone for calls, texts, email, and work-related apps Looking for a consistent position and able to commit to at least six months Because our clients and their dogs depend on us every day, reliability and consistent attendance are essential to this position. Experience & Qualifications Previous professional experience with dogs, dog walking, pet sitting, daycare, training, veterinary care, shelter/rescue work, or another animal-care setting is highly preferred Knowledge of canine behavior, body language, and basic training techniques is strongly preferred Veterinary technician/assistant, dog training, daycare, or other professional animal-handling experience is a plus Strong communication and problem-solving skills Must be physically capable of walking for several hours, navigating stairs, bending and lifting as needed, and safely handling larger or strong dogs Must be comfortable working outdoors year-round in New England weather Reliable transportation to and from Charlestown is required Access to a car is helpful but not required Must be 18 years or older Why Join WAGS?
