Job Overview Join our dynamic team as a PRN Animal Care Specialist, where your passion for animals and dedication to their well-being will shine! In this versatile role, you will provide exceptional care, enrichment, and training for a diverse array of species, including mammals, reptiles, fish, and invertebrates. Your expertise will support our mission to promote animal health, safety, and conservation through hands-on animal handling, scientific research, and habitat management. This position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a vibrant zoological environment. Duties Provide daily care and maintenance for animals across various exhibits, ensuring their health and safety through proper handling and restraint techniques. Assist with animal feeding routines, medication administration, and health monitoring in accordance with veterinary guidelines. Support scientific research initiatives by collecting data on animal behavior, physiology, and habitat conditions; utilize tools like GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and ArcGIS for habitat mapping. Conduct environmental assessments and contribute to habitat enrichment projects that promote natural behaviors and environmental sustainability. Maintain detailed records of animal health, behavior observations, dietary intake, and research findings; ensure compliance with environmental laws and zoo policies. Support veterinary procedures by preparing animals for examinations or treatments while adhering to safety protocols. Contribute to educational programs by assisting trainers with animal demonstrations and public engagement activities. Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, taxonomy, microbiology, and pet care best practices. Experience with animal handling, restraint techniques, and medication administration in a zoo or laboratory setting. Familiarity with scientific research methods related to zoology or microbiology; laboratory experience is a plus. Knowledge of environmental law regulations affecting wildlife conservation and habitat management. Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcGIS for habitat mapping and environmental planning. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and engage with the public during educational presentations.
