Job Description

In this permanent position, the employee is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary and safe environment for the dogs. Provide food and clean water twice each day to the dogs. Employee must be available 7 days a week.
Essential Job Functions:
Clean and maintain dog kennels and surrounding area to provide an odor free and low stress environment for the animals per kennel protocol. Provide food and water twice daily at set feedings as set by the ASCAS Office Manager. Ensure dogs get weekly exercise by walking or playpen time. Assists in the intake process of the animals to be placed at ASCAS. Maintain all supporting areas in a proper, consistent manner as specified by protocol. Assist fellow staff members if time persists. Place scooped waste and garbage in appropriate containers. Adhere to ASCAS protocol/guidelines to insure animals are receiving proper care. Report immediately any problems to the Shelter Director or Office Manager for resolution. Perform any additional duties assigned by the Shelter Director or Office Manager.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual must be 18 years of age or older.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or Equivalency GED. Six months experience working with animals preferred, but not required. A thorough knowledge of animal handling, behavior, and care will be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Employee must able to present information to co-workers and to the general public effectively. After receiving initial hands-on training, must be able to follow procedures/protocol duties as written or shown. Apply common sense understanding to carry out uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of standing for long periods of time. Must be able to handle large and aggressive dogs. May be required to lift as much as 100 lbs. Must be able to work outside in the heat of summer and cold of winter as well as in the rain or snow. Must not be allergic to dogs or cats.
Working Conditions and Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. By the nature of the job, there is occasional exposure with dead, injured, sick, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and infectious diseases. Employee will be exposed to noxious odors, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, which may be related to the disinfection of the animal housing area. Must be available and willing to work some weekends, holidays and attend mandatory training and meetings as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

From $9.50 per hour
