Obedience Training Duties Teach basic commands: sit, stay, down, come, heel, place, and leave it . Build reliable obedience around distractions, people, animals, and unfamiliar environments. Reinforce good behavior using rewards, praise, and consistent corrections when appropriate. Leash-train dogs for controlled walking and proper handling. Address unwanted behaviors such as jumping, pulling, excessive barking, or ignoring commands. Socialize dogs safely with people, dogs, vehicles, noises, and different environments. Teach impulse control, patience, and calm behavior. Maintain consistent daily training routines and document progress. Educate owners/handlers so commands and expectations remain consistent at home. Hunting Training Duties Develop basic obedience before introducing hunting-specific work. Condition dogs for endurance, field environments, water, weather, and varied terrain. Introduce and reinforce recall, steadiness, quartering, casting, whistle commands, and directional control . Develop retrieving skills and reliable delivery to hand. Introduce dogs to birds and hunting environments in a controlled, progressive manner. Develop scenting and tracking abilities appropriate to the dog's hunting role. Introduce gunfire gradually and safely to prevent gun shyness. Train dogs to remain steady and under control around birds, shots, other hunters, and distractions. Practice retrieving from land and water when appropriate. Maintain fitness, conditioning, and field readiness. Evaluate the dog's performance and adjust training based on strengths and weaknesses. Reinforce safe handling and recovery procedures during actual hunts. Qualifications Experience with dog training, dog handling, and animal behavioral training is essential. Strong animal handling skills including animal restraint, pet care, and animal care are necessary for safety and effectiveness. Excellent client communication skills to educate pet owners about obedience training and behavior support strategies. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for handling animals or equipment in the training environment. Kennel experience, pet sitting background, is a plus but not mandatory.
