This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands‑on hours with a reputable dog walking and pet sitting company. Team members will build foundational training skills while performing their regular dog walking and pet sitting duties, with opportunities to further develop their abilities as Walk and Train clients are added to their schedule. About Us Becky's Pet Care has been serving Northern Virginia since 1998, providing dog walking, pet sitting, enrichment, and training services with an employee‑based team of more than 70 staff members. As we continue to expand our Walk and Train program, we are committed to supporting humane, positive reinforcement training and fostering the professional growth of our team members. Position Associate Dog Trainer Reports to: Lead Dog Training Specialist The Associate Dog Trainer plays a key role in our growing Walk and Train program, supporting foundational Puppy and Basic Manners training, enrichment activities, and our targeted "Mini Walk and Train" sessions. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about canine behavior, eager to gain hands‑on experience, and excited to grow within a supportive, mentorship‑driven environment. Job Types Full‑time (30-40 hours/week) Part‑time (minimum 15 hours/week) Non‑exempt position Availability required for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays Responsibilities Training Implementation & Foundational Support Assist with Walk and Train sessions focused on leash manners, impulse control, and basic socialization Reinforce training cues using humane, force‑free methods under supervision Observe and report dog behavior to support individualized training plans Follow safety protocols and support safe handling practices in the field Perform dog walking and pet sitting visits as assigned Client & Team Development Communicate respectfully with clients about session highlights and enrichment goals Participate in ongoing training, shadowing, and feedback sessions with senior staff Model professionalism, compassion, and positive reinforcement principles in all interactions Requirements Skills (Required) Familiarity with canine body language and basic training principles Comfortable handling dogs of various sizes and temperaments Strong communication skills and willingness to learn Reliable time management and punctuality Commitment to humane, positive reinforcement training Experience (Required) Minimum 6 months of experience in pet care, dog walking, or animal handling Demonstrated interest in dog training and behavior Enrichment and Meds Certified through Becky's Pet Care (or willingness to complete upon hire) Education (Required) High school diploma or GED Enrollment in dog training coursework or certification Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and squat for extended periods Ability to safely handle dogs and lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs Comfortable working outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions Benefits Full‑time benefits available Hands‑on experience with a wide range of companion animals Mentorship and guidance from experienced trainers Opportunities to develop and refine dog‑handling and training skills Supportive, collaborative team environment Pay Rate Hourly + Bonus Pay + Holiday Pay + Tips Work Location Northern Virginia — in clients' homes and surrounding neighborhoods, working outdoors in all weather conditions.
