At The Salon Professional Academy, DC, we pride ourselves on creating a safe space where every student feels supported and valued. Our students are not just learners—they are our clients. As an instructor, you will be helping students not only master technical skills but also build the confidence to thrive in the professional world of beauty. We are looking for someone with strong business-building and marketing skills who can teach students how to attract and retain clients in a real-world salon environment. Your primary role will involve hands-on instruction in our student salon training area, guiding students through the art of cosmetology while fostering a business mindset. This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about the beauty industry, education, and coaching the next generation of beauty professionals.
Responsibilities:
Instruct students in various cosmetology disciplines, including hair cutting, coloring, styling, skincare, makeup application, and nail technology. Spend most of your time on the student salon training floor, providing direct, hands-on instruction to students as they interact with clients. Teach students practical business-building skills such as marketing, client retention, and managing a successful beauty business. Create and implement effective lesson plans that align with curriculum goals and industry standards. Offer individualized support and guidance to students, helping them refine their skills and develop professionalism. Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment where students feel empowered and safe. Monitor student progress through assessments and provide constructive feedback. Stay current with industry trends, tools, and techniques, and incorporate them into your teaching. Promote a culture of professionalism, ethics, and respect for all clients and fellow team members.
Qualifications:
Active Washington, DC Cosmetology License Strong business building and marketing skills, including knowledge of promoting and growing a salon or beauty practice. Previous teaching or mentoring experience is a plus, though not required. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to engage with students of all learning styles and provide personalized guidance. Passion for teaching, inspiring students, and supporting their success in the industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Cosmetology instructor license. Experience working in a salon or beauty spa environment, especially in a client-facing role. Knowledge of modern beauty marketing strategies, including social media marketing, branding, and client retention techniques. Ability to thrive in a hands-on, client-focused teaching environment.
