Work Schedule Monday - Friday (8-hour shifts) Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional late nights for park operations, special events, and City activities. About the Role The Park Attendant is responsible for helping maintain Barber Park's grounds, facilities, playgrounds, and amenities while providing outstanding customer service to park visitors. This position performs a wide variety of maintenance, custodial, landscaping, and operational duties that ensure the park remains safe, attractive, and welcoming throughout the year.
Key responsibilities include:
Open, monitor, close, and secure park facilities. Patrol park grounds and athletic facilities while promoting visitor safety and enforcing park rules. Provide exceptional customer service to visitors and community members. Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, blowing, litter removal, and landscape upkeep. Inspect playgrounds, buildings, park amenities, and facilities for maintenance and repair needs. Complete custodial duties, including cleaning restrooms, disinfecting facilities, removing trash, sweeping, mopping, and restocking supplies. Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, dump trucks, loaders, backpack blowers, string trimmers, edgers, and other maintenance equipment. Perform minor repairs using hand and power tools. Assist with operating and maintaining the park's spray ground. Support parking, crowd management, and logistics during special events. Maintain regular communication with supervisors and team members. Participate in staff meetings, safety trainings, and professional development opportunities. Complete assigned duties safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental standards. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates must possess: High School Diploma or GED. Valid North Carolina Driver's License or reliable transportation. Experience in grounds and landscape maintenance. Customer service experience. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, kneeling, climbing, walking, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Experience in facility maintenance. Horticulture or landscape maintenance experience. Janitorial or custodial experience. Pool, spa, or spray ground operations experience. First Aid and CPR certifications. Construction, carpentry, or plumbing experience. North Carolina Pesticide License or the ability to obtain one within one year of hire.
