WHO WE ARE
Tompkins Seneca Tioga BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provide students with hands-on, work-based learning experiences that prepare them for careers, post-secondary education, apprenticeships, and industry certification. Our programs serve students with a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, experiences, and career goals. CTE is designed to meet learners where they are and support growth through experiential instruction that develops both technical expertise and professional skills. We are committed to creating inclusive learning environments where all students feel welcomed, respected, and prepared to succeed in an evolving workforce. Our programs emphasize real- world application, industry alignment, and continuous learning for both students and staff.DUTIES:
The CTE Cosmetology teacher delivers New York State-approved cosmetology curriculum while fostering an inclusive, culturally responsive, and affirming learning environment. This role requires balancing rigorous technical instruction and licensure preparation with teaching practices that reflect the diversity of students and the clients they will serve in the workforce. The teacher prepares students to meet industry standards, develop strong professional habits, and transition successfully into employment or continued education. The position requires a commitment to continuous professional learning, reflection, and collaboration to ensure instruction remains relevant, equitable, and aligned with workforce expectations. Inclusive and Culturally Responsive Teaching Create and maintain a welcoming, respectful, and affirming classroom and salon environment for all students. Implement culturally responsive and sustaining instructional practices that reflect diverse identities, experiences, and client needs. Ensure students see themselves represented in instruction and feel prepared to serve a diverse clientele with professionalism and confidence. Model ethical practice, dignity, and respect in all interactions with students and colleagues. Technical Instruction and Workforce Preparation Deliver New York State cosmetology curriculum aligned with licensing requirements and industry standards. Prepare students for New York State cosmetology examinations through rigorous, hands-on instruction. Teach technical skills alongside professional skills such as communication, workplace behavior, time management, and client relations. Differentiate instruction to support students with varying levels of prior experience and skill development. Curriculum, Assessment, and Work-Based Learning Use performance-based and authentic assessments to evaluate student learning and skill mastery. Supplement required curriculum as needed to ensure students gain comprehensive, real-world cosmetology experience. Develop and maintain partnerships with industry professionals, salons, and employers to support guest instruction, internships, and work-based learning opportunities. Support students in exploring career pathways and making informed decisions about employment and post-secondary options. Professional Learning and Collaboration Engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen instructional practice and technical expertise. Reflect on personal strengths and areas for growth and seek resources, training, or partnerships when needed. Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and industry partners to continuously improve the program. Model lifelong learning and adaptability for students.QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold a New York State Cosmetology Teacher Certification or Certificate of Qualification (C.Q.). Must hold a current New York State Cosmetology License with a minimum of five years of full-time cosmetology work experience. Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, techniques, and practices. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team. Proficiency in, or ability to develop, computer skills necessary for instruction and classroom management.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous successful teaching experience. Knowledge of essential products, tools, and techniques for all hair types, including an understanding of how protective styles such as braids, twists, and locks carry cultural significance and professional value. Willingness to take a leadership role in regional industry programming, including the future development of adult education initiatives.START DATE
September 1, 2026SALARY:
