in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks to hire a full-time 9-month (academic year) Clinical Assistant Professor in Costume Design and Technology, beginning in Fall 2026. This is a career-track position and includes undergraduate teaching, research, and service responsibilities at the Los Angeles location and may also serve our online degree programs. This is an academic-year faculty position. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$73,000. At ASU FIDM, we are democratizing fashion education, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. asufidm.asu.edu Position Description and Essential Functions This position includes essential functions of teaching and mentoring students in costume design and technology, developing new courses based on individual strengths, research and service according to departmental needs.
Areas of emphasis may include:
costume construction, costume design, digital rendering technologies for live production, film and/or television. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching with the ability to develop and instruct a variety of in-person and online course offerings. The successful candidate will teach and mentor undergraduate students based on department needs. Additional responsibilities include service to ASU FIDM, Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts, and ASU. We are especially interested in applicants who are dedicated to advancing the ASU Charter and realizing ASU's Design Aspirations and the mission of the School.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
A graduate degree in Costume or related discipline. Evidence of excellence in teaching. Demonstrated proficiency in at least two of the following areas: costume construction, costume design, digital rendering technologies.
Desired Qualifications:
Evidence of successful teaching and mentorship in fashion design for undergraduate beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced courses. Evidence of creative achievement in costume design (2D + 3D). Experience in costume in one or more of the following: live production, film or television. Knowledge and experience in current trends and technology relevant to costume design including proficiency in software programs. 5 or more years of experience in the fashion industry.
