Job Description

The Performance Operations - Costume Department at the College of Performing Arts seeks a highly motivated student to serve as a Student Costume Shop Assistant . The Student Costume Shop Assistant assists the Costume Shop Manager with stock pulls, maintains the costume stock, and runs the stock pulls for faculty and classroom requests. We're looking for a well-organized, caring, focused individual with experience in group leadership, costume history, costume production, and general knowledge of the New York City Garment District, to support initiatives within the Costume Department . The Student Costume Shop Assistant reports to the Costume Shop Manager and is an ideal position for students who are interested in a career in the fields of costume design and technology. This position is open to student applicants with Federal Work Study awards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide additional support during productions Attend all shifts in person as scheduled by shop management Assist fellow student workers as needed and overhires Act as a shopper for shop management Assist shop management with measurements Take notes in fittings Act on behalf of shop management in urgent or emergency situations Additional responsibilities as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Recipient of Federal Work Study award Basic stitching skills (hand and/or machine) Familiarity with fabrics and garment silhouettes Familiarity with costume production and costume design
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current student in a College of Performing Arts or Parsons degree program Experience working on costumes for personal or production means Experience working as an Assistant Costume Designer or Production Assistant
WORK MODE
On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
