Job Description

The Crematory Operator will have the responsibility to see that the remains are properly received and processed at the crematory, and that the cremated remains are returned to the authorized person(s). Job Details
  • Care for deceased in a respectful manner while performing all the tasks involved in the cremation process
  • Receive remains and ensure all documentation is complete
  • Complete all required documentation with respect to cremation process and equipment maintenance
  • Strict adherence to all professional, municipal, state/provincial and federal licensing authority regulations applicable to the cremation of human remains
  • Promote a safe work environment by being aware of and practicing universal precautions and adopting general principles of safe conduct
  • Maintain the crematorium, equipment and adjacent facilities
  • Any other duties as directed by management
  • Conveys facts and information clearly in written and spoken communications
  • Shares viewpoints and information openly and listens attentively to others' ideas and suggestions
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner with manager Education High school diploma or GED Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science
  • To be company and state/province certified, or working towards certification, to cremate human remains in the state/province they wish to work
  • A good driving record and valid current driver's license required if performing removals and transfers of bodies and delivering cremated remains.
  • Previous customer service experience would be an asset

  • Must operate equipment in a safe and careful manner
  • Must comply with OSHA and EPA guidelines concerning storage and use of chemical substances Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift to 75lbs.
  • Moderate odors, dust or fumes may cause discomfort and / or irritation to eyes or respiratory passages Exposure to dangerous chemicals, disease, carcinogens or radioactivity (even though protective clothing is worn)
  • Working beyond "standard" hours as the need arises
  • Some of these duties may involve long hours and need to be done on weekends, evening, nighttime and holidays. Some duties may also require you be exposed to unpleasantries associated with deceased human remains.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, kneeling and squatting for short periods
Pay Range:
